On July Eleventh, 2012 I was born in Riverdale, Georgia. During the Holocaust my grandfather fled to America where he met Barbara Dressner, who married him and gave birth to my father, making me a second-generation American. In my family I am the second child. The stars have to allign for anyone to be born, some being mildly probable, and others being completely improbable. -

9/11
On September 11, 2001 the terrorist group Al-Queda attacked the United States. Four teams of terrorists hijacked four planes. The first two planes crashed into the North and South Towers, while the third hit The Pentagon. Osama bin-Laden, the leader of Al-Queda,organized the attacks. A sense of nationalism surged throughout America and man Americans began supporting the military and those affected by the attacks. Airport security increased; causing delays, but preventing future attaqcks. -
Death of Eric Ellis
On July 12, 2008 I turned eight years old.The next day, my grandfather passed away in his sleep. My grandfather escaped Germanyat the age of two, right before The Holocaust. He had a heart transplant at the age of 57 and lived for fifteen more years. I was affected by this because my grandfather had always inspired me to do great things and learn about the past. -
Dow Jones Hits 5-Year Low
In 2008the stock marker crashed; dragging us down into a reccession. Poor economy harms stock brokers to amish. A decade can be entirely saved or sunk by just one day's events in the economy. During the recession, the Dow Jones hit a five-year low, harming thousands.That day left a resounding thud throughout America. When I am an adult, I may not gain a job because of the lasting effects of that one day. -
Gaining an Interest in Learning About the Holocaust
The Holocaust was the genocide of over six million Jews during WWII. Their teqniques of murder were gas chambers, concentration camps, and other murderous contraptions and acts. Survivors are slowly dying off from old age and we must learn from the past mistakes in order to prevent future disaster. If we do not learn about The Holocaust, the world will forget the horrors millions endured, and may repeat itself. I decided to learn about The Holocaust in order to learn my ancestors' history. -
BP Oil Spill
In 2010 a British Petroleum oil tanker exploded, releasing oil into the Gulf of Mexico. Eleven workers were killed in the explosion and thousands of animals were harmed. The Enviromental Protection Agency has made an attempt at curing the oil-soaked animals and has helped greatly, During the spill millions of gallons of oil was lost, causing the oil prices to heighten. My family ahs been affected because gas prices skyrocketed, causing my family to lose money due to high gas prices. -
End of the Harry Potter Series
Hundreds of thousands of people have read Harry Potter. A film industry worth billions has been made by the books. The books have inspired followers and die-hard fans who were devastated by the series end. When the series halted on July 15 2011, the movie was the top in the box office. I have read all seven books, seen all eight movies, and was personally saddened by the end, as I was on of the millions touched by the series. -
Sister Moving to College and Mother Becoming Administator
In 2012 my sister moved to college at the University of Georgia and my mother became administrator of our synagogue. My sister lives in the Brumby dormitory and is a few hours away from Fayetteville. Also this means my mother is away from home most of the week. As a result of this, I have been home alone quite often lately and it has also improved my maturity due to having to take care of myself. -
Beginning of Hebrew Training
In most Jews' lives they will have a Bar or Bat-Mitzvah. To reach this accomplishment a child must first learn all the prayers in a service and their Torah portion. A Torah portion is based on when they have their Bar/Bat-Mitzvah. It has taken me two months to learn all the prayers. A Bar/Bat-Mitzvah is the most important occurance in a Jew's life. Hebrew training has taught me lessons in perserveance and has been difficult, but I eagerly await my Bar-Mitzvah. -
Hurricane Sandy
Recently Hurricane Sandy has had devastating effects on thousands of families in the north-east U.S. My relatives, Aunt Susan, Uncle Darryl, Cousins Dorothy, and Harry Waskow, live in New Jersey. Their electricity and plumbing did not work for eight days. Modern-day society lives on the internet. Imagine having none, along with not being able to shower over a week.These effects did not affect to just one family, Sandy's effects reached out around the world, leaving thousands homeless or injured.
