Proclamation of 1763
The British issued a proclamation that the British colonists could not expand westward in 1763. This affected the Native americans, France’s Native American’s allies, and the British colonists. It led to conflict between each other. This made the British colonists skeptical and afraid to be ruled by the British because they thought the British were going to treat them like the British treated the Canadians. -
Land Ordinances in the Old Northwest

This led to the Mexican American War, where the United States managed to get more land during this war, because texas was annexed from Mexico because of the poor government in Texas during that time. -
Webster- Ashburton Treaty
Webster and Lord Ashburton worked together to prevent war between Britain and the United States. Webster agreed that maine would have less northern territory than originally planned, and the British ceded a strip of territory in north NY and VT to which the US did not claim. -
Oregon Territory
The “Manifest Destiny” idea was a main reason why the United States wanted to move westward and acquire Oregon. The US originally signed treaties with Spain and Russia for the land so the only competition was the British. Many Americans moves into Oregon during the Panic, and that is how America got Oregon. -

The Mexican Cession was the land that Mexico surrendered after the Mexican War. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was a main reason. -
Gadsden Purchase
Area of land that was originally part of Mexico but Santa Anna gave it up in 1853. It allowed for the construction of a southern transcontinental railroad. It was 10 million for the land. -
