    Kongo Major Events

    The Rep. of Congo had some major events in the 14th century. One of the major events was in 1482 when thee Portugues started to battle the kings of Congo which lead madness. After this war, the other major event was when the Portuguese made peace with the kings of Congo. The third major event in the Republic of Congo was when in the 1500s when five million slaves were taken from Africa and shipped to Brazil. The kings of Congo had warned everyone in Congo to be aware of this event.

    Events in Eq. Guinea were very important and were more about Traditions. One major event in Eq. Guinea was in the 1400s on Christmas day when they like to do a certain dance every year called the balélé dance. After it was discovered African kingdoms started to conquer it.     The events when the kingdoms were founded was very important for the future of West Central Africa. Cameroon was discovered in 1472 by a Portuguese shipman named Fernando Po. After it was discovered, Kingdoms started to rise and take over Cameroon. After they were in Cameroon more major events had happened. In the 1400s, one major event was that other kingdoms would battle each other during the time. Later, the next major event was when they made peace with each other.

    Around the 16th century, the Kingdom of Kongo took the step to convert to Christianity. They were one of the first African kingdoms to convert to that religion and this action gave them paise throughout the nations of Europe. This conversion led many missionaries to West Central Africa and these missionaries would stay until the nineteenth century. However, all of this European introduction was just the beginning of them sailing over and starting to take advantage of them as slaves.

    Transatlantic Slave Trade

    1780 through 1860 was the time of the transatlantic slave trade in West Central Africa. Portugal was the main country that came for these kingdoms but many other European nations came by to take part in the trade. Though there were many African natives taken and sold all over the continent, the biggest number of slaves from Africa came from the West Central. This made them the largest supplier of coerced labor for the New World. This immoral slave trade ended in 1860.

    In 1860, the abolishment of transatlantic slaves was declared. Now that West Central Africa was living soundly, they established and developed a secure trading system. They were able to find close resources like ivory, coffee, and rubber and export them to trading partners, but these resources held deep social and political ramifications in the West Central interior. They would also find gold and salt to trade because there were many mines towards the west.
