  • Terrorist Attack

    Terrorist Attack
Without a doubt 9/11 was one of the most horrifying events in the U.S history, a time when thousands of innocent lives were lost. At that time I was still living in Ecuador and I remember everyone in my town crying and trying to communicate with their siblings in here. I was still a little kid, didn’t know much what was going on, but seeing the news and all the terrible graphics made me cry.
  • War in Afghanistan

    War in Afghanistan
As a result of the September 11 attack and other terrorists attacks, on October 7, 2001 the War in Afghanistan began a new phase. In Ecuador after the attack all there was to watch were news based on terrorism, war, and the United States. My mom told me that at that time we were all watching the president’s speech announcing the war. I don’t remember a lot, but I know that as persons that affected us a lot, it wasn’t revenge but it was for the best of the people.

  • U.S Invades Iraq

    U.S Invades Iraq
The invasion of Iraq in 2003 is one of the U.S most important events in history due to the fact that it marked the beginning of the Iraq War. I was 8 at that time, I probably wasn’t even aware of this event but now I know the importance of it and that one of my mom’s cousin was in it. Last Christmas I asked him why he decided to be a soldier and how it felt to be in there and he’s answer was to protect the people in the U.S. B
  • Facebook was launched

I will say that the launching of facebook in 2004 had a major impact on people’s lives specially teenagers. Facebook is everywhere you can have it on your phone, computer, iPod, and other electronics. It’s a social networking service that can connect one to any person around the world. I created a facebook in 2010 and right now I can easily talk to my friends in Ecuador, New York, and some of my family members that live in Spain.
  • Hurricane Katrina

    Hurricane Katrina
I wasn’t here when this happened but I remember seeing the news and my mom getting phone calls from family members telling us what had happened. Even though we weren’t affected directly it was sad seeing thousands of lives lost in a matter of seconds. A natural disaster such as this makes one more sensible and teaches us to appreciate life day by day. Hurricane Katrina is known as the sixth strongest Atlantic hurricanes meaning the damage was severe. New Orleans was mostly affected.
  • Obama became the 1st Black President

I will say that Obama is one of the most influential people in my life. He has been the president of the United States since I came here, and the decisions he makes affects me and my family. When he was being elected I remember hearing in Ecuador that he was going to be the first black president. I was happy to hear that because in my opinion it was good to have a change. Every president brings new things and looks out for the best of its people. Let's hope he gets more done as time goes.

  • Digital Television Transition

The digital television transition in 2009 shows us how technology advances each time impressing us more and more. Digital TV offers a better sound quality and more efficient programming options. Today I believe there are very few people who have old televisions, now everyone has plasma TV with all the new features possible. My grandma says that back in her days there was no TV to watch compared to all the technology we have today. In the future I'm sure technology will have many more advances.

  • First Hispanic woman to serve on the US Supreme Court

First Hispanic woman to serve on the US Supreme Court
Having a Hispanic women serve on the U.S makes my family and myself very proud. It’s always good when we hear Hispanic people taking important roles in the United States. For me Sonia Sotomayor is a motivation to strive harder in my studies because it shows that it doesn’t matter what race we are we are all equal and are capable of having successful futures. I remember when that happened my mom told me that she wants me and my little brother to be very successful.
  • Earthquake in Haiti takes place

The earthquake in Haiti was one of the most horrifying natural disasters that affected the poorest nation in the world Haiti. A 7.0 quake with an epicenter in Port-au-Prince, left many kids without their parents, hospitals and building collapsed, and an abundant number of death bodies piled up on the streets. Seeing this on television made me cry, to know how much pain Haitians were going through was devastating. The help the U.S provided along with other countries was helpful but still today
  • Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill

The BP oil explosion on April 20 was the largest oil spill in history. This affected many people’s lives, not a lot of deaths but the amount of oil spills was high. It was predicted that between 35,000 and 60,000 barrels of oil were spilled each day. When I saw this on the news the first thing that popped in my head was the environmental damages it was going to bring. This event is important in my life since I love taking care of the environment and didn’t want the sea animals and its surroundi
  • Osame Bin Laden Dies

The death of Osama bin Laden was a very important event in history. He was the founder of the organization that is responsible for the September 11 attack and has been wanted for years. When I first watched it on TV that he was killed by the United States forces I feel that finally justice was accomplish for all the people that died on 9/11. Now that we know that he is dead we have less fear of another terrorist attack like the 9/11 one.I can’t be glad at someone’s death but he didn’t have mercy

  • Obama at Camp David for the annual G8 Summit

Obama at Camp David for the annual G8 Summit
This event is important because it shows that Obama is looking out for the best for our country. At Camp David he met with members of the eight largest economies for the annual G8 Summit. The G8 is a forum for the eight largest economies; this time Obama met to discuss major global, political, and security challenges. They talked about energy and climate change, food security, and transitions in the Middle East and North Africa. It’s good to see that the U.S is working together for a common goal
