  • Steam Engine

    James Watt invented the steam engine in 1781. It was the first steam engine. It created the possibilities for other modes of transportation and engines in factories.
  • Steam boat

    John Fitch made one of the first American steamboats in 1787. The steamboat was good because it made transporting goods chaper and also passengers could travel faster and safer than in wagons. It spurred the economy basically.
  • Cotton Gin

    The cotton gin was improved on by Eli Whitney (a widow had it and she gave it to him to fix and he took it and fixed it and sold it but she sued him and he never saw a penny of the money) It made it easier to take the seeds out of cotton. That meant that the cloth got cheaper and plantation owners increased the amount of claves they had.
  • Interchangeable Parts

    Eli Whitney made the first ten guns with interchangeable parts for Congress. They ordered alot. Eli never figured out a way to manufacture the guns though. each was made by a skilled craftsman and very expensive. Eli's gun making company achieved it after his death.The first person to do it quickly and efficeintly was Colt.
  • Second great awakening

    This was around the middle of the seond great awakening. Then the slaves started having thier own churches and got to be a bit more equal to the whites at church and got some more freedom by making their own churches.
  • Steam Locomotive

    In this time The Steam Locomotive was getting popular in America. The first one was the Tom Thumb. The locomotive made it even easier and faster to transport goods. It could also run in any weather or season unlike the Steam Boat. It even FURTHER spurred economic activity. Soon railroads would span the entire U.S.
  • The Liberator

    In 1831 William Lloyd Garrison started the first anti-slavery newspaper. It was called the Liberator. Later he helped free black man Fredrick Douglas start his own newspaper called the North Star.
  • Steel Plow

    John Deere saw that cast iron plows didn't work very well on the plains. He invented the Steel plow. It worked better. It made farming easier and more crops were produced.
  • Decleration of sentiments

    300 people got together at the Seneca falls convention and editted the Decleration of Independence so that it was for women's sufferage. Elizibath Cady Stnaton and Lucrettia Mott were there.
  • Civil War starts

    The civil war started becuase of two reasons. One the north and the south disagreed alot about slavery and the south and the northwere constantly beulding uo tensiona and such. Then lincoln got elected and the states in the south said he was going to stop slavery but really he wasnt. Also because all the southern states seceded.
