    Asian Immigration

  • Birth & Departure

I was born in Laos and life was depressing, and my family wanted to move from Laos. My father died was I was three and my mother soon after commited suicide. I was left alone with my two older brothers.
  • Arrival

The captain said were only two days from California, but already my brothers are very ill. I hoped America had medicine to make my brothers better or I felt I'll be alone while they die. We finally arrived in America, theres trash talk about Asian imigrants.
  • Housing

After many months of working hard for a sustainable amount of money we started renting an apartment. The apartment itself smelled horrible, we didn't even have a window. We had to share the bathroom with every other family on the same floor. Additionally, our trash was just tossed on to the street, where rats and insects thrived.
  • Job

I quit my old job because of the small pay I received. Instead I became a personal servant. Thankfully, my masters loved me because I was an obedient seven year old, they paid me more money and fed me the food of rich people. People say asians will work for little pay, but I needed more money if I wished to survive. Together my brothers and I barely had enough money for that months rent,.
  • Crime

My previous masters died from one of the other servants murdering them. I was questioned a lot when the police found their bodies, they didn't think I commited the crime so I was let go. I was terrified and shocked one of my own people would stoop as low as killing someone to obtain money.
  • New Job

Old friends of my previous masters stopped by just as I was leaving my old masters home for good. They had asked me if I wanted a job, I quickly agreed. I began working the next day, and to my suprise they paid even better than my previous masters, I was earning a whole 5 dollars an hour, that was more than my brothers.
