    The Black Death hits Europe

    The Black Death hit Europe in 1347. It took more lives than any other war or epidemic at the time. Approximately 25 million people were killed in Europe alone; half of Europe’s population. The Black Death spread to Europe through ‘death ships,’ rodents, and fleas. Infected by a bacteria called Yersinia pestis. The plague originated in China. People would party to try and not get infected with the disease. Other’s would seclude themselves in their house and only eat the purest of foods.

    The Printing Press

    The printing press was invented sometime between 1440-1450. People called it a revolution in print technology. Due to the printing press being invented, papers could be published quicker and become mass-produced. Johannes Gutenberg was one person imparticular who used the printing press. His most known book was called the 'Gutenberg Bible.' That book was also the first mass-produced item. To this day, it was one of the most important inventions.

    Lady with an Ermine

    This was painted by Leonardo da Vinci. The lady in the picture is believed to be Cecilia Gallerani. Was painted on a walnut board and he used oil paints. The ermine may have been put on the painting because it may have been on the Duke of Milan's Coat of Arms. The Duke of Milan commissioned the portrait. The ermine can either represent purity or pregnancy.

    Age of Exploration: Christopher Columbus

    He made four transatlantic voyages: 1492–93, 1493–96, 1498–1500, and 1502–04. In 1492 he sailed to the Americas.
    They crossed the Atlantic not knowing they would land.
    The called it, 'a voyage into the unknown.' Columbus led his three ships: the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria. Christopher Columbus found the Americas in 1492. After Columbus, other Europeans traveled and settled in the Americas. His jobs were an explorer/sailor. He was born in Genoa in 1451, May 20th, 1506 Columbus died.

    Mona Lisa

    Painted by Leonardo da Vinci. One of the most famous paintings in the world. Much smaller in person then people see online. It was an oil painting. The identity of the subject is unproven, however, many people believe the woman is Lisa del Giocondo. Dovetails and braces were added to prevent the painting from disintegrating.

    Luther's 95 Theses

    Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the Wittenberg Castle Church in 1517. Luther was one of Western history’s most significant figures. Luther said they can only reach salvation through their faith, not through their deeds. This sparked the Protestant Reformation. His writings changed the course of religious and cultural history in the West.
  • Shakespeare

    The Globe Theatre was built in 1599. Wrote 154 sonnets, 10, 37 plays, 18 of those being a comedy. First published play; Henry VI, Part II, which appeared in 1594. He was born 1564 and died in 1616. He lived in Stratford-upon-Avon. He married Anne-Hathaway.
  • Galileo's Telescope

    In 1609, he invented his own telescope. Through trial and error, he eventually made a three-powered spyglass. The thing that made Galileo different from them was that he taught himself ways to help improve the instrument. August of that year, he presented an eight-powered instrument then was later rewarded with life tenure and a doubling in his salary. Then, he began observing things that were magnified by 20x. In January 1610, he discovered the four moons that are revolving around Jupiter.
