  • Impressment of sailors

    The British would capture U.S. ships. They did this to capture U.S. sailors and force them to join their army or if they believed their were British sailors. This was one the reasons of the war of 1812.
  • Washington’s Proclamation of Neutrality

    George Washington makes statement that the U.S. will remain a neutral nation. This made sure the U.S. wasn't thrown in a war unprepared. Staying neutral was something the U.S. kept for many years to follow.
  • Jay Treaty

    The main goal of the treaty was to maintain neutrality and peace between the U.S. and Brittan. Brittan agreed to remove troops from U.S. land and allow some trade with them.
  • Washington’s Farewell Address

    George Washington says good bye as president and warns the people of U.S. against dangers. Washington warned against political parties and forming permeant alliances with other nations. This is what the U.S. followed for hundreds of years.
  • Embargo Act 1807

    This was an act in which the U.S. stopped trading with Both Brittan and France. France and Great Brittan where at war and were sizing U.S. ships that traded with the other nation. So Thomas Jefferson stopped U.S. trade with both nations.
  • Chesapeake-Leopard Affair

    A British ship ordered a U.S. ship to hand over 4 men that were thought to be deserters. The British ship then shot at the Chesapeake and forced the 4 men on to their ship. The American people were out raged over this breach in their agreement with the U.S.
  • Tecumseh

    Tecumseh was trying to recruit Indians to join him in his plan to push back the U.S. invaders. While away William Henry Harrison marched his forces to Prophetstown and destroyed the town and Tecumseh attempt to rally the Indians was over.
  • War Hawks

    They were members of congress who wanted to go to war with Brittan. They cited multiple reasons for James Maddison to declare war.
  • war of 1812 begins

    President James Madison signs declaration of war against Great Brittan. The U.S. and Great Brittan go to war. Cause of the war was Great Brittan restricting U.S. trade and the U.S. wanting to expand west.
  • Tecumseh

    Tecumseh he rallies his remaining forces and join the British army and play a huge role in defeating American troops at the siege of Detroit. Tecumseh was eventually killed in battle and his army of Indians dismantled with most of them ceded their lands and surrendering.
  • Hartford Convention

    Was a series meetings with Federalist officials to discus their grievances with the James Maddison administration and the war of 1812. At the end they had drafted a declaration calling the federal government for aid in New England and also had some Constitutional amendments. The timing of this was not good since treaty of Ghent had already been signed.
  • Treaty of Ghent

    Was a treaty between Brittan and the U.S. in which they ended the war of 1812 it also allowed the U.S. to expanded to the Great Lakes.
  • Battle of New Orleans

    This was a land battle between U.S. and Great Brittan during the war of 1812. The British were trying to capture New Orleans. This was the U.S. greatest land battle victory.
