  • I was Born

    I was Born
I was born Benjamin Robert Furu on November 10, 1999 at 7:29pm. My Mom was in labor for almost 24 hours. I was named after my great-grandfather Berger and my grandmother Rose. My hebrew name is Shmuel Fievel after my mother's grandparents. Their names were Samuel and Frieda. I was born in Northern Westchester hospital in Mt. Kisco, the same one where my Dad and all of his siblings were born and later my sister was given birth to as well. I was eight pounds, nine ounces and twenty two inches.
  • My Sister was Born

    My Sister was Born
I remember arriving at the hospital, holding my Thomas train. When I got in the room my mom called me over; she had a gift. She handed me a baby and said "Ben this is your sister Hannah." My younger sister Hannah was born 3/23/02. She is two and a half years younger than me. When we were young she always tried to emulate me; the way she dressed and sports she played to name a few. It made me feel good that I was the person she chose to look up to as her role model.
  • The First Time I Played a Sport Recreationally

The First Time I Played a Sport Recreationally
I was four years old in my last year of preschool and my parents signed me up for soccer. From there is where my love for sports started. From soccer, I started playing baseball, then basketball and football. I also follow pretty much any sport imaginable, I pretty much have ESPN on the TV at all teams. I have had a fantasy team in pretty much every sport imaginable. Sports have become a substantial part of my life and the start of that is due to me starting soccer when I was four.
  • The First Time I went to a Wedding

The First Time I went to a Wedding
It was my Aunt and Uncle's wedding. I had no idea what the concept of a wedding was. All I knew that I had to be sized for this uncomfortable outfit that had too many layers. I was the ringbearer and my sister was the flower girl. When it was our turn to walk down the aisle, my sister was throwing the petals along the aisle and then my Dad told me to give the rings to the man in the middle. But instead I freaked out since I didn't know him and ran over to my uncle and gave him the rings instead.
  • I Got a Dog

    I Got a Dog
In second grade, I arrived home to find a puppy greeting me at the door, a goldendoodle, she was eight weeks old. We named her Willow, after my grandpa Walter, who had recently passed. When I was younger I spent so much time with her. When I had books assigned in school I used to read them to her. Also when I had my Game Boy I used to show her all of my games and show her all of the controls to them. Her best attribute was as catcher when we played baseball; she never gave the ball back.
  • I Went to the Dominican Republic

I Went to the Dominican Republic
This was my first time out of the country and it's still the only time I have been out of the country. We stayed in a resort in Punta Cana. One thing I remember about the trip is when we went on a bus that was taking us to a private island off the mainland. We went through where the people of the Dominican Republic lived and you got a real feel of what kind of poverty that the people that live there are going through and it makes me feel very lucky that I live in a country like America.
  • I Collapsed my Lung

    I Collapsed my Lung
I was playing right field: bottom of the sixth, runners on second and third, two outs. SMACK, the ball is hit to my left and I take off full speed, and then BOOM everything goes white. I just ran into a boulder that was in the foul territory of right field. I tried to get up but then collapsed and seeing blood dripping from my chin. I was rushed to the hospital to find out that I had a collapsed lung and needed a chest tube and three stitches in my chin. I spent three days in the hospital.
  • When I Broke My Back

    When I Broke My Back
It was baseball season during sophomore year, I was the starting pitcher for the first game. Mid way through the second inning I felt a terrible pain in my lower back. We went to the doctor he revealed that I had two stress fractures in Lumbosacral Joint Five, the lowest joint on your spine. I was diagnosed with Spondylosis in my L5 vertebra. The doctor said I wouldn't be able to play baseball again. But after three months of PT I overcame my injury and was cleared to play sports again.
  • Joining Track

    Joining Track
Joining the winter track team last year was one the best decisions I have made. It made me realize how unhappy I was playing basketball, and how much happier I could be playing a different sport. Also, I could be pretty good at something that I've never tried before. I am a jumper for the team, I compete in the triple jump and the long jump. My best event is the triple jump, where my best jump is 38'3" which is good for the fifth best jump in our league and the twelfth best jump in the section.
  • I Got a Car

    I Got a Car
I have a black 2013 Volkswagen Passat SE. Getting a car has been great. I no longer have to rely on people for rides, now I can just drive myself wherever, whenever. I now can do deliveries at work as well, which puts more money in my pocket. Getting a car also has added more responsibility to my life, I pay for my insurance, gas and because I am another driver on the road and I am expected to follow the rules of the road. And if I don't a car is a weapon and can cause a lot of damage.
