I was born at Torrance Memorial and it was the beginning of my life.
-
My little sister was born so I was no longer an only child.
-
My dad left my sister, my mom and I. My mom was left to raise my sister and I alone, so we moved in with my grandma and grandpa for some help.
-
My mom and dad try to work things out and they do for a while but they end up separating for good.
-
I start preschool and learned how to speak in English. All we spoke at home was Spanish so my mom was also learning along with me.
-
My mom threw me a birthday party. There was a pinata, jumper, and I wore a Cinderella dress and a little crown. They also pushed my face into the cake. The whole family was there.
-
My uncle taught me how to ride a bike. He was one of the father figures I had growing up.
-
My mom decides to have us move schools. We find out we are considered gifted so we are put in magnet/gifted classes.
-
My uncle got our family free tickets to Disneyland and California Adventures. He had found the tickets in a bathroom. It was my first time going after my dad left because we always went with him. I understood he was not coming back.
-
My math/science teacher made me love math. He helped me a lot with science and made time to give me extra support. Made me want to be a math teacher.
-
The year I became interested in student council and joined. Now I join organizations and clubs that have to do with politics and community service.
-
I start my first year of middle school and no longer went to school with my sister so I got my first phone.
-
I did not like her at first but now she is like my other sister. She has taught me so much and taught me that it's okay to let people in.
-
I almost did not culminate because I had a D in science. I realized I needed to take school more seriously.
-
It was a new life because I could restart and change. I knew no one and I knew I would take school seriously so I would not be in danger of failing again.
-
I get a letter from Stanford saying I should apply to their summer high school program and they've noticed the work and grades I've received. This made me realize if I keep working hard I will get into a college of my choice.
-
My great-grandma passes away and I realize I need to spend more time with those I care for because they can leave when we least expect it. It brought the family closer.
