    American General William Hull surrenders Fort Detroit along with his army when the British arrived, refusing to fight due to a loss of hope and intimidation of the opponent. Fort Detroit was then declared a part of Great Britain allowing Tecumseh to plan more attacks on the Americans.

    American troops stormed Fort York, defeating the 750 British and Ojibwa Indians in order to begin the Canadian expansion plan. After capturing the fort, the colonists burned the Canadian capital of York to the ground in order to make a statement of their power. However this battle did not lead to further expansion in Canada but was a rather pointless battle.

    The United States Navy bravely fought against the British in Lake Erie, defeating and capturing six British ships belonging to the Royal Navy. This victory allowed for American forces to recover Detroit and gave a future advantage in the later Battle of Thames. This was one of the largest naval battles during the war.

    The British military led under the authority of General Robert Ross defeated the American forces in Maryland. They began to march up to capital of Washington, D.C where they would destroy everything in sight.

    British troops coming from Maryland after a victorious battle marched to the the American capital. British troops set fire to numerous important federal buildings including the White House. The British went through with this violence in retaliation for the previous American caused burnings in Canada.

    While the Battle of New Orleans was being fought, a peace treaty in Ghent, Belgium was signed. The Treaty of Ghent create serenity between the British and the Americans as it detailed information regarding the Great Lakes and its opportunity for expansion. News of this peace treaty was not relayed until two months after its signing thus becoming unable to halt the Battle of New Orleans.
