    President Madison takes Office
    Madison was elected in 1802 but he didn't partake in office until 7 years later. He was president for 5 years. He didn't want war while he was in office. He also didn't want any conflict with the Native Americans. He decided his main goal was to bring the country in unity.

    The war hawks were people from Britian called to war for America. They had a strong sense of Nationalism. They felt that Britian was treating the U.S. like a British colony. The war haks were willing to start a war for America's rights. THe Americans were not cautious.

    The fighting with Native Americans cause the realtioship between America and Britian worsend. THe U.S.A and Britian also continued to disagree over trade. The British were supolying guns the the Native Americans. They were also encoureging Natives to attack U.S. settlemrnts which obviously made them unhappy with Britian. The U.S.A said if the British or French would stop seizing American ships, U.S. would halt trade with the other.

    British warships blockes American ships in a threat. The Britsh started to board American boats to try impress seamen. A breif confretation broke out; New York left 32 British dead or wounded. President Madison finally gave into the war after seeing his army's abilitys.

    The American declaration of war took the British by suprise. The navy only had 16 ships to fight. The Americans faced difficuilty when the war actually began. The army was small ill-equiped. The officers knew very little about the military, so they caouldn't really control them.

    Britian blocked all along the coast so the ships couldn't get in. 135 warships blocked all American ports. The Bitish were able to close off all American ports by the world's end. THere was a major sea battle so the Americans could get their ports un-blocked. The British brought back their troops.

    THe Canadians only had a few untrained troops to warm off the emeny. British troops were helping the Canadians. Th British were lead by General Issac Brock. The Canadians fought feircly, forcing the Americans to retrreat.

    The USS constitution defeated a British warship. It eas a FERICE battle. According to tradition American soilders were nicknamed "Old Ironsides". It was a nickname given to them because their ship was so powerful, it made the British attilery fire bouncer off the ship's wooden bowl. To the American's it seemed as if Constitiution were made of iron.

    After loseing Lake Erie te British retreated. The Americans went back to a battle. The Americans won the Battle of Themes. Tecumsh a Native American cheif, died in the horrific battle. Without Tecumsh's guidance and leadership, the Indian confederation soon fell apart.

    Andrew Jackson took command of the American troops. In 1814 the help of Cheerokes walked alone to Jackson's camp to surrender. The fighting ended. Native Americans had to give up land to the Whites.

    British hips sailed into Cheepsack bay to run into American troops British troops marched into the capital. President Madison watched the battle take place. Dolly Madison the President's wife had left the whit House befire it was burnt ot the ground. British "rockets" bomed the American ships.

    The Americans started the battle. Oliver Hazard Perry designed and built his own ship to part take in the battle. The British batterd his ship and left him helpless. He rowed to another American ship and got on. The Americans won the battle.

    The National Anthem wa written by Scott Key. He made it when he saw that the American flag was still up after the attakc on Baltimore. It tells of his night watch on the battle. The poem became popular and then it was set to music. In 2831 Congress made it the National Anthem of the United States of America.

    The disaster happened adter the White house incident. The British bombed forts until 1814. The Americans beat off the British and their attack. Scott Key wrote a poem. Even the president was worried.

    A group of Federalists met in Hartford, Connetiucet. Some delegents to the Hartford Convention suggested that New England states withdraw fro the U.S. The delegnts debated of and and on. News of the war ending came about and the Hartford Convention had ended.

    The treaty of Ghent had started as jus a " peace talk". On Christmas eve of 1814 it happened. The two sides signed the treaty. It ended the war completely. It returned things to they way were before the war.

    Britian hoped to sail up from the Missippi. Although Andrew Jackson was waiting for them to arrive, Jackson had thousnads of frontiermen. There was also hundreds of African- Americans fighting in the battle as well. There was 2,000 British soilders.
