General Yi revolted against the capitol, and defeated the royal army led by the King. He then dethroned the king in a coup d'etat

After King U was dethroned by General Yi, King U's son Chang of Goryeo was placed on the throne. He wasn't even 10 years old at the time.

One last time, General Yi dethroned the Goryeo royal as King, and exiled him. He then proceeded to ascend to the throne himself and establish a new dynasty.

Realizing the young King was not enough, General Yi killed both the young King and the original King, and General Yi placed a Goryeo Royal on the throne. This was intended to give him legitimatcy to control the throne.

General Yi's fifth son, Lee Bang-Won feating that the public may not accept the entrance of the new regime mudered a prominent loyalist of Goryeo Po-Eun, claiming that Po-Eun was a traitor.

The new Joseon Regime established its capitol at modern day Seoul. Envoys from other countries were recieved, and Joseon envoys went to nearby countries to inform them of the dynastic change.

Lee Bang-Won, the fifith son of General Yi (now King), found out about a plan by his father's close advisor that was to kill Bang-Won and his brother and then ascend the throne himself. Bang-Won then proceeded to kill that close advisor.

After killing the close advisor, Lee Bang-Won was not given the throne. His brother then ascended the throne but soon abdicated in favor of Bang-Won.

General Yi ( then King Taejo) after his abdication to his fifth son, died.
