The Phantom Tollbooth

  • Chapter 2

    Milo is teleported to the Land of Wisdom, and begins its journey in Expectations.
    There he meets the Whether Man, who explains that you need to go to the expectations first, before you can continue.
  • Chapter 1

    A bored boy named Milo believes that everything is a waste of time.
    He comes home to find a box that includes parts to build a toll booth.
    After building that, Milo drives through the tollbooth in his toy car, heading in Dictionopolis's direction.
  • Chapter 2 (cont.)

    Milo continues, and ends up in the Doldrums because he was not paying attention.
    He meets a watchdog named Tock, who encouraged him to think about anything in order to get the car running. Tock joins Milo on his journey.
  • Chapter 3

    Milo, now accompanied by Tock, continues his walk through the Foothills of the Confusion and to the gates of Dictionopolis. They meet the king's advisers, and are told that their market day in the town. The couple is perusing the word market, where you can find all the words in the world.
  • Chapter 4

    They meet the Spelling Bee and the Humbug on the market. These two get into a big discussion about how the words are important, and destroy the entire market.
  • Chapter 5

    Milo and Tock arrested by Officer Shrift market destruction caused by the humbug and the bee. They are condemned to 6 million years, in prison, where they meet which weakly named Macabre.
  • Chatper 6

    Milo and Tock are told about the creation of Wisdom by a king and his people of courage scare away evil creatures that once lived there. The king's sons, Azaz and Mathemagician, arguing about whether numbers or words are more important. When asked princesses Rhyme and Reason this question, I said they were equally important, and have since been banished to the castle in the air. His return could solve almost any problem that already exists within the Wisdom.
  • Chapter 7

    Milo and Tock, along with everyone else in the city, start participating in a banquet in which they literally eats their words. For dessert get half-baked ideas, and then all the other guests, except Humbug, out to dinner.
    Milo asks if King Azaz Rhyme and Reason can return to Wisdom and naturally Humbug and Tock Milo suggests that this search should undertake themselves. The King agrees, which also makes the Humbug go. He gives Milo a box of all the words he knows, and sends them on their way.
  • Chapter 8

    The trio of adventurers begin their journey to Digitopolis, and the first place on the way is the Forest of sight. Following the road that winds through the forest, get to the point of view. Here they meet Alec Bings, a boy who grows down, and told perspective.
  • Chapter 9

    They took all the Forest by Alec view. Meets Giant / Dwarf / Fat man / thin man, see the cities of illusion and reality, and eventually met Chroma Magno, director of the symphony orchestra of color, the color shown playing instead of sound, and colors of the world at all times.
  • Chapter 10

    They meet the orchestra commanded by Chroma, after Chroma falls asleep, Milo gives it a go himself. It ends the wolrd a week ahead in time and everything being the wrong colors before quitting. Luckily, Chroma is still sleep.
  • Chapter 11

    they move and meet Dr. Dischord and the terrible DYNNE, which capture and create all kinds of horrible sounds. They hate any decent sound, including silence.
  • Chapter 13

    Once the "but" is loaded into cannon and fired off, destroying the strength of sound in an explosion every sound is released back into the valley. The Soundkeeper knows she was wrong to keep the sound and want the princesses back. Since Milo will save them, she gives him a gift of sounds in their support. Only to suddenly get jerked out of the car and fired at the Island of Conclusions, they swim across the Sea of Knowledge and back to shore, back on track.
  • Chapter 12

    They drive on, and pass into the Valley of Sound, which at this point, is actually silent. This is because the Soundkeeper didn't like how sounds were being treated, and kept them safe in her fortress, banning sound from the Valley for good. Milo goes and tries to steal a sound from the fortress that could be used as ammo to destroy the fortress and release the sounds. He manages to keep the 'but' that was on the tip of his tongue and smuggle it out of the fortress in his mouth.
  • Chapter 14

    Finally, the group arrives at Digitopolis, took there the remaining distance of its travel, as the chapter title suggests, the dodecahedron, a man-like creature with the head 12 faces. Once there, the first place they go is the Mina number where all the numbers in the world come. This is where you first meet the Mathemagician, in its entire glory pad.
  • Chapter 15

    They are some subtraction soup, making it more hungry you eat, and then displayed by Mathemagician pencil skills has to offer. He keeps talking about numbers, and how to never end, and then tells all about largest smaller and remain in the Infinite. Milo enters the Infinity Mode enthusiasm.
  • Chapter 16

    Milo realizes that it will never reach infinity, and returns to his friends after meeting a child 0.58. The Mathemagician gives some gifts, and continue to the mountains of ignorance. The first thing to be found here is the Wordsnatcher Everpresent, a bird that is usually out of context. The first real demon found the Terrible Trivium, give them tasks that seem meaningless and time, agree to do so and get to work.
  • Chapter 17

    Milo uses his gifts to get him and his fellow demons to trouble entering. In short, you use the stylus to do the math and realize that their task would be too long, your telescope to see that the demon of insincerity is not all that scary, and your ideas for the giant gelatinous lose their appetite. Then they are chased by the demons of the mountains.
  • Chapter 18

    They see the castle that princesses are being held in but is stopped short by the Taker way that makes them see what they want to see, smell what they want to see and hear what they want to hear. Milo left out of it, however, and all meet the princesses inside. Milo explain lessons about what all trips must mean to him, then go through the demons fly over Tock, in the nick of time. They still are not finished yet.
  • Chapter 19

    The demons are in pursuit, but are stopped by armies around the Kingdom of Wisdom and sent back to the mountains in fear. Tock, the Humbug, and most importantly, Milo, are all hailed as heroes and peace is restored to Wisdom. Unfortunately, Milo has to go home.
  • Chapter 20

    Milo comes home worried about how much time passed, but it had been so long. He goes to bed, go to school and come home the next day, all the excitement of trying to figure out one thing: what funny thing was going to do next!
