The Outsiders Timeline

  • Chapter 1; Getting Jumped

    Ponyboy leaves the movie theater and gets jumped by some socs, his friends come over and rescue him from the mugging/haircut. The socs get chased but escape.
  • Chapter 2; Drive in

    Dally, Johnny, and Ponyboy sneak into the drive-in to see a movie, they meet Cherry and Marcia.
  • Chapter 2; Storytelling

    Ponyboy tells Cherry about how Johnny got jumped, and why he acts to jittery and nervous during the movie.
  • Chapter 3; The walk

    Two-bit, Johnny, and Ponyboy walk Cherry and Marcia to Two-bit's house to give them a ride home, they then have a close call when Bob's mustang drives by. Then they get seen by the Mustang and the Socs come out.
  • Chapter 3; Running away

    Ponyboy gets yelled at at home and runs out of his house, crying. after Darry slaps him. He goes to Johnny and tells him to come, too.
  • Chapter 5; Cutting the hair

    Johnny uses his switchblade to cut Ponyboy and his own Hair, they also bleach Ponyboy's hair.
  • Chapter 4; In the park

    Ponyboy and Johnny run to the park and encounter Bob and some other socs, Ponyboy gets his head dunked in a fountain and almost drowns untill Johnny stabs Bob to death.
  • Chapter 4; Hopping a boxcar

    Then Johnny and Ponyboy go to Dally after the murder, he give then money, clothes, and a loaded heater. They then go to the railroad to take a boxcar away. The boys wake up in the morning and go to Jay Mountain.
  • Chapter 5; In the church

    Ponyboy wakes up later that day after sleeping in the church atop Jay mountain, Johnny had gone out to by supplies.
  • Chapter 5; Nothing gold can stay

    Ponyboy recites the poem, "Nothing Gold Can Stay" to Johnny, Johnny understands the meaning but Ponyboy gets it later.
  • Chapter 5; A new friend

    Dally comes to see how the boys are doing, Delivers a note from Soda-pop, and takes them out for food at Dairy Queen.
  • Chapter 6; Burning church

    Dally, Johnny, and Ponyboy go back to the church, only to find it burning. Johnny and Ponyboy go in to rescue some children trapped inside, Ponyboy gets knocked out and Johnny gets crushed by a board.
  • Chapter 8; Visiting

    The boys go see Johnny in the hospital, Johnny informs them that he has too much to live for to die, then he passes out and the boy leave.
  • Chapter 9; The rumble

    The Greasers meet the Socs to have a rumble, which in the end the Greasers do infact, win. Dally then drags Ponyboy to the hospital where Johnny tells him to "Stay gold", and then Johnny dies. Dally then starts ot cry and runs out of the room.
  • Chapter 10; Back to the lot

    Dally calls the gang, telling them to meet him at the vacant lot to hide him as he just robbed a grocery store. At the lot the Fuzz pull up and Dally pulls out a heater, he gets gunned down.
  • Chapter 11; Laying in bed

    Ponyboy is forced to lay in bed for a week, and realizes that he will have to explain to a judge what happened.
  • Chapter 12; In court

    Ponyboy goes to court with a few Socs and Greasers, he gets called up to the stand and gives his testimony.
  • Chapter 12; Endgame

    After the court-date, Ponyboy's life has been getting worse and worse, he is failing classes. Ponyboy finds a note in Johnny's copy of "Gone with the wind", telling him to not stop looking at sunsets, and to tell the Late Dally to look at some, too. Ponyboy then writes a story about what happened, which is "The outsiders".
