The purpose of this timeline is to Map out the most important battles of Alexander the Great after he ascended the throne of Macedon. The date we will begin with however is the year 356 BC the year of Alexander's birth. -
Alexander already a knowledgeable and experienced commander in the Macedonian army becomes king of Macedon after the death of his father Philip the 2nd of Macedon.

Alexander began his conquests with his neighboring countries the Illyrians. He began with them as a move of caution and convenience. As they were close and he did not wish to leave Macedon vulnerable to invasion during his absence. -
Alexander began working his way through Greece conquering their city-states, beginning at Thebes and working his way south before concluding with Sparta. -
Alexander invades Persia in the year 334 BC. After 3 years of battles and conquering the four Persian Capitals: Babylon, Susa, Persepolis, and Pasargadae, he finally claims control of Persia.

Alexander while campaigning in Egypt has the high priest give him the title of Pharoh or Son of the Gods. -
Alexander found his first Alexandria. This city bears the name of Alexander and housed the great Lighthouse of Alexandria as well as the largest library in the ancient world. -
Alexander marches his troops into the harsh jungles of India. HE faces many challenges here such as Elephants used by the Indian cavalry, vipers, constant rain, and the natives. -
Alexander crosses the Gedrosian Desert on his way back from his campaigns. There is no real necessity for him to do this but he did it simply because he wanted to prove that he could cross the desert.

The life of Alexander ended in Babylon while his cause of death is unknown it is thought to be illness or simply that his body gave out after so many years of battle and alcoholism.
