On October 2, 1869, a man from Porbandar in West Bengal, India was born. His name was Mohandas K. Gandhi.

Mohandas Gandhi marries Kasturba in an arranged marriage. They would have four sons together and she would be a supported of his work until her death.

Mohandas k. Gandhi attended law school in the United Kingdom and passed his Bar Exam on June 12, 1891. While he was away for school, he did not know that his mother had passed away.

While in South Africa, Gandhi and others refuse to register with the Boer Republic of Transvaal, which is under Bristish control. This was the beginning of non-violent, non-cooperation movement among the Indian people there.

Mohandas Gandhi is able to reach an agreement with the Prime Minister of the Transvaal, ending the protests.

Gandhi returns home to India where he is received as a hero.

Along with the Indian National Congress, Gandhi let the Non-Cooperation Movement, which was characterized by non-violent resistance and civil disobedience. The movement would last until February of 1922.

On March 12, 1903, Gandhi travelled 320 km to Dandi to make his own salt. 10,000 people joined him on the 24 day journey. This was to protest the British Salt Tax.

Gandhi is arresting for violation of the Bristish Salt Laws. His arrest sparks non-cooperation protests across India.

After bring released from prison, Gandhi is invited to represent the Congress of India at the 2nd Round Table conerence held in Britain.

Gandhi returns home from the Round Table Conference and is arrested shortly after, on January 4, 1932 for sedition.

Mohandas Gandhi fasts in prison from Septemebr 20-25 1932, to protest the treatment of India's "untouchables".

Gandhi's wife dies on February 22, 1944. She supported Gandhi's work until her death.

India becomes independent of British rule on August 15, 1947.

Gandhi is assassinated by a Hindu nationalist, Nathuram Vinayuk Godse, on his way to evening prayers.
