The Life of Emily V. Zappia

  • Meeting my best friend and soul mate.

Meeting my best friend and soul mate.
I believe that everyone has a true love and a soul mate, most people get those two phrases confused. My best friend Alyssa was my soul mate, my other half, and the only person who could read my mind without me having to say anything at all. She was like the sister I was never able to have and more.
  • My first concert

    My first concert
Bands I looked up to for years were right in front of me. Not only that, but I was surrounded by people who created a family with me through this music.
  • Losing Alyssa to suicide

    Losing Alyssa to suicide
Death is such a touchy subject at any age, especially a death such as this. I lost Alyssa to the disease that is manic depression at the age of 15. I think the age is what makes me so uncomfortable. This was the biggest mountain I've had to climb and I'll never really get over it, just learn to accept it and it gave me an insight into suffering that not many people can quite grasp about this situation.
  • McDonald's

My dad forced me to get a job when I turned 15, so after a lot of applying I finally nailed one at one of the places that was my last resort, McDonald's. I can't say it was a good experience, but it definitely taught me how to handle people in customer service and to get over some phases of anxiety that I had. I never want to go back to fast food, but I'm glad I learned what I did when I was there.
  • Meeting a Twitter friend

    Meeting a Twitter friend
I was always a really shy person who valued chatting through websites like Twitter than human interaction. It was a lot easier for me and allowed me to become close with some of the most amazing people I still need and will meet one day. But I was lucky enough to build a bond with a girl who shared the same name as me and lived in Arizona, but 4 hours away. We met in March of 2015 and it was one of the most weird yet cool experiences. All I could remember telling her was, "You're in 3D!"
  • Meeting Ryan

    Meeting Ryan
Meeting Ryan was probably one of the best things that could ever happened to me. I know I'm young, but I truly believe he is that one person every romance novel and cheesy movie was made about. I have never been more comfortable or secure with someone in my life besides Alyssa. I am thankful for him everyday.
  • Vans Warped Tour

    Vans Warped Tour
Going to my first music festival- I know most teens dream of seeing their favorite popstar in concert and beg their parents for those tickets that cost an arm and a leg, but I am more simple than that. I grew up with two parents who adored hard rock and old punk which influenced me a ton, turning myself into a metal head, pop punk fanatic, and lover of most things containing a guitar. So in 2015 when I was finally able to attend the music festival of Vans Warped Tour that I dreamed about since I
  • Moving in with my mom

    Moving in with my mom
I came from a broken home that was constantly fighting for custody over me as some sort of power struggle to see who was the better parent. I had been dealing with it ever since I could remember and finally putting the push and pull to an end was a weight lifted off my shoulders. I can say I'm truly happy.
  • Adopting Pumpkin

    Adopting Pumpkin
-I always wanted the cliche couples stuff. I'm a romantic, what can I say? So when my boyfriend, Ryan, asked me how I would feel about adopting a cat with him, I couldn't have been more ectastic. I love animals and I feel like the responsibility will help me grow.
  • Christmas Party

I never wanted the typical high school life filled with popularity, sports, and parties. But I finally went to a party that wasn't celebrating a birthday for a cousin of mine. It was fun to hang out with those I never got to see much otherwise and celebrate Christmas early.
