The Life of Dora

  • Birth

    Birth

Ahh my birth, the most amazing yet painful few days of my mother's life. After two days of me refusig to leave the womb, I did, at 12:02pm, I was born by C-section. Anyways, my 2 month premature self weighed an astonishing 4 pounds. I refused to cry or scream for quite a while but when I did I reportedly sounded like a cat meowing. Due to my size(and Putnam not having a NICU) I was transferred to Maria Fareri Children's Hospital. So my alien head baby self was born(I got stuck. Don't gudge me).
  • Almost drowned

    Almost drowned

It was a beautiful sunny day on Long Island. My dad’s family decided to go to Jone’s Beach for some fun in the sun. My mother and I always loved sitting in the sand to letting the waves wash over our legs. So, as always we sat in the sand with my family to let the waves crash over our legs; but, the current was stronger then usual and swept over my body dragging me with it. My uncle launched himself to grab me. When he pulled me back up my parents were frantic looking for me. But, he saved me.
  • First Day of Kindergarten

    First Day of Kindergarten

My first day of kindergarten, a day of excitment and wonder. I entered the school I thought I'd be attending until High School. It was such a comfort to have so many of my preschool friends there with me. All grades met in the auditorium until the bell rang. Our teacher put us in a line. She walked us to the other building where kidergarten was.At the end of the day my best friend and I noticed our backpacks were identical. We had the same pink and purple, Minnie Mouse design. Ironic, isn't it?
  • Last Day of 2nd Grade

    Last Day of 2nd Grade

My last day of second grade was a sad day for my school, they were closing. The weather seemed to agree and it poured the whole day. There was an assembly in the auditorium, they showed videos and pictures of that school year as a final goodye. When it was over, we went to our classrooms to prepare to leave. I said bye to my best friend and went to my bus door. When my teacher opened the door a waterfall came down, caused by a broken gutter. We ran out one by one to the bus. Soaked, we left.
  • Hurricane Irene

    Hurricane Irene

My family and I always loved the beach. We use to have a timeshare in Brigantine NJ. We were there the day before Hurricane Irene. We already knew we were going to leave early but that Friday we got a call from the front desk to evacuate. The next morning we up and left. My young mind grew panicked. When we were on the road the song Party Rocl Anthem played as a dog jumped out of a mans truck, running into the woods and he followed it. We got home safe. But I was traumatized. That day haunts me.
  • Camping

    Camping

My first camping trip was in 5th grade. It was a cold rainy weekend. Our first night was fine. But, our second night, was a night to remember(not by choice). We sang and laughed, we were having fun. The rain poured down slaming on our roof and coming through the netting around the top, getting the top bunks wet. Our Girl Scout troop leader came in to tell us to go to bed. But also, the camp is flooding and to sleep with one eye opened in case we have to leave. No one slept that night.
  • High School

    High School

My first day at Brewster High School, not to mention first time at public school. It was such a shift for me. I went from a class of 12 total to 300. Crowded halls and knowing barely anyone. It felt so weird being in this brand new place with brand new people. I could barely find any of my classes and finding the buses was a nighmare. I knew this would change me, I no longer had my friends, my family. But I met a girl who changed my life. She took me under her wing and made me her best friend.
  • Benediction

    Benediction

Benadiction was a tradition at St. Mary's. It was a celebration for the graduating 8th grade. My lovely class of 12 kids showed up at the barn for pictures in pur caps and gowns. We had a beautiful mass to bless us performed by our Pastor. We went to the hall for the party. My best friend and I gave a speach and laughed about all the good times we've had. Our places were in beween the guys and girls, we were always the devider. I sat with my two favorite people next to me. Dinner, cake, goodbye.
  • Quinceañera

    Quinceañera

A Quinceañera, one of the biggest events in a latinas life. A giant party for her to celebrate her entry into womenhood at the age of 15 years old. My dress was a black wedding dress and the venue was huge. My parents put so much into the party. With my teme of Red Queen(from Alice in Wonderland). It was the best night of my life. My friends from my old school, dance and Brewster were all there to share it with me. But most of all I'm greatful my grandmother was able to experience it with me.
  • Hottest Day of the Year

    Hottest Day of the Year

Every year my family and I go to VA every year to visit my aunt and uncle on their farm. We drive 9 hours with our pets there and back. Our trip back was with one extra pet this time. When we were there, we picked up a puppy for my other dog to play with. In total we had two dogs and two long haired cats. On the way back our A/C broke while it was 98° outside, we were only half way. It was the hottest car ride of my life. When we got home my cats were sweating so bad that they were drenched.
  • Last Nutcracker

    Last Nutcracker

The Nutcraker was a bianual event at my dance studio. When it came around again I realized it would be my last one. I landed the roles of Party Adult and Candy Cane. Practices so intense but, then came my final perfomance for the weekend. Before I went on as a candy cane I looked to my friends and started to cry. It was a bitter/sweet night. During the bows the seniors and juniors cried as they thanked the teachers and hugged each other. It will always be something I love and will look back on.
