  • Cotton Gin

Eli Whitney invented this machine to harvest cotton easier.
This made it alot easier to make up to fifty pounds of cotton every day. This invention made cotton very popular in the South and a high demand for new cloth. However, the downside to this was prolonging slavery. Since the cotton gin someone always had to be payinfg attention to the cotton plants at all times. Slaves were very much needed since they got no pay for working.
  • Phonograph

The first device for recording sound was developed by American inventor Thomas Edison in 1877. This device is named the phonograph, meaning sound writer. This gave the music industry an all new future and hope. To make this work a person would speak into a funnel-like mouthpiece that directed sound into a thin metal diaphragm. The sound waves then bounced back out of the mouthpiece, repeating what he said and making sound.
