    A second invention that helped with the cotton industry was the water powered- power loom. This machine made making cloth more efficient and brought workers to factories where the machines were held.

  • James Hargreaves

    James Hargreaves
    In the 18th century Great Britiain had become the top producer in cheap cotton made products. The "flying shuttle" increased the pace of weaving so that they needed more cotton. When the spinning jenny was invented this helped knock out cottage industry and paved a new way into producing cotton products.

    James Watt
    Another addition to the inventions for the cotton industry. Watt designed the engine to drive the machine. Now the engines weaved the cotton and spun the yarn. Since steam engines were powered by coal, these cotton mills could be found all over Great Britain.

  • Samuel Slater

    Samuel Slater
    It was against british law to export british machines and machine operators. In 1789, disguised as a farm hand, Samuel Slater emigrated to the United States. In 1791, Slater re-built a cotton mill by memory in Rhode Island. By doig this, he became known as the "Father of the American Factory System."

    Eli Whitney
    Eli Whitney was an inventor, best known for his invention of the cotton gin. This inventon made cotton a very profitable crop and made America's economy rise in the buying of slaves. After losing most of his money due to legal battles, he started making muskets for the continental army and continued this till his death.

  • Robert Fulton

    During the 1800's the United States was a large country and the at first, the only way to transport goods was by road. Then Robert Fulton created the first paddle steam boat. By building this, he is helped make transportation much easier. Soon these paddle boats crowded the Mississippi and the Altantic Coast because of how helpful they were.
  • Factory Act

    During the Inudstrial Revoloution factory owners wnated their machines running on the time so they could make as much money as possible. They were able to save money by hiring children to run the machines and paying them very little. The jobs were very hard and kids died everyday of exhaustion and accidents. The Factory Act helped stop harsh labor for children.

    In 1853 the Industrial Revolution came to Japan. It came as a fleet of US steam boats wanted to trade with Japan. For a little while Japan argeed to our trade demands. But in 1914 they had become the sixth largest merchant fleet in the world.

    Henry Bessemer
    Henry Bessemer, an english businessman, created an inexpensive method for producing steel. Steel was needed for cannons during war and Generals were complaining that the steel in the cannons was too weak to take the new powerful shells. Bessemer made a way to make more pure steel which helped create those more powerful cannons that those generals wanted so bad.

    More Information about Henry Ford!At the beginning of the 20th centry, cars would be built by a few experts and could take a very long time. Henry Ford started the assembly line and used it to make more cars for his company, Ford Motors. The assembly line involved many people who knew how to do one thing on the car, and it increased car production.
