The North and South were kept separate by the Anglo-Egyptian rulers. During this period of time most the developmet was focused in the North, with the Southand other regions wre potically and economically separated.

The Civil War was made the longest civil conflict in the world. Over two million people were killed during this war. Lots of people starved, some taken into slavery,and some crossed the international border.

The Civil War happens between the govenment force, Sudan People's liberation Army (SPLA). This is composed of mostly non-Muslims from the southern part who do not like the governemt efforts to the Islamic law.

The women in Sudan do not have it easy. Abortion is legal there and it is only so the women's lives can be saved. The death of women are from about 500-2,000 women dying per 100,000 live births that happen each year.
