    As economic and political conditions improved, the need for education expanded. Students would study arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, music, grammar, rhetoric, and logic. Women were not, at any cost, allowed to attend universities. By acquiring an education, the sons of wealthy townspeople might hope for high positions in the Church or Royal Government. This all connects to the uprising and creation of a nation-state by having educated people lead and have government power to govern a nation.

    During the 1200s, there was a great council that people went to for advice later on they became known as Parliament. As they evolved they became England's legislature and acquired a larger role in government, which helped form and unify England. Parliament created a system that helped govern internal affairs and external affairs. This way they controlled the people and united them as a nation. Also, with all this power they had obtained, it limited the power of the monarch.

    The Great Famine was caused by heavy rains and severe weather. This lead to the plague. It washed out millions of people in many countries such as Europe, Asia, and North Africa. Jews were being blamed and slaughtered. The economy hit rock bottom, as production declined. Death occurred so easily, jobs needed to be filled in and people demanded higher wages. The cost of labor soared, inflation broke out. The plague had spread death and social unrest. It took more than 100 years to recover.

    England and France were rivals for just about everything. At first, the English won a string of victories and then their luck reversed. After the war, France and England took different paths. France had national feeling and expanded French Kings power. But England kept asking for funds from Parliament. This way power in English government went towards Parliament and having a set of people govern and handle affairs and funds was acceptable.This is the process of developing a national government.
