This was known as the fourth ecumenical council meaning that it was a meeting discussing the matter of the Church and its practices. Martin Luther's Publication of 95 Theses
Martin Luther, a very important person in the Catholic society that helped the church find its way back to what it was after the reformation. He proposed a list of ideas and spread them across the world for all catholics to see. The fact that there were indulgences to forgive sins already committed or sins to committed was a clear sign that the church was losing its way from it’s original idea. The Second Vatican council was the most recent ecumenical council which started in 1962 and ended in 1965, It was announced by Pope John XXIII, he wanted to express the spiritual renewal of the church and as an occasion for Christians to separate from the Rome to join the search for unity or reunion.
