The Age of Napoleon

    Napoleon was in charge of the French army against the Austrians and their allies. Napoleon’s plan was to isolate a group and take them out very quickly which worked effectively. This plan scared the Austrians making them move back further and further. This led to one of Napoleons first successes.
  • Egyptian Campaign (yellow)

    Napoleon wanted to seize Egypt and get scientific enterprise, he was very determined to improve his trade routes. It was the primary purpose of the Mediterranean campaign. The Egyptian campaign ended into feet for a Napoleon at the battle of Nile. There’s a Napoleon gain knowledge from the Egyptian’s and gain train routes.

    Napoleon was rising in France, he went from a great general to a political leader very fast. From the start he took down the directory and set up a three men government board for France. This lead to another constitution being drawn up which lead to Napoleon naming himself the consul for life after being named the first consul of life. This is a success because he replaced the weak government that was in place in France, yet a failure because the new government that he put in did not last long.

    As we know France had suffered great debt from the revolution. Napoleon put this banque together when in power to solve France’s debt and start its economic recovery which worked very well from issuing notes payable to bearer on sight, in return for discounting of trade bills. This was a success because it brought France out of their great debt.

    The concordat was drawn up from Napoleon backing away from the revolutionaries socials reforms and wanting to make peace with the Catholic Church. Therefore in the concordat Napoleon let people be free with their religion and have the church stay under state control. This event was a success because it made it the catholics feel welcomed to know they had open religion now.

    As Napoleon made the consulate to take over the weak directory in France he received the title of the first consul of life. Yet when he forced Spain to give back Louisiana territory to France, he made himself receive the title of consul for life showing his power. This was a success because he gained back territory for France showing he was loyal. Yet it was a failure because he was very cocky about it naming himself instead of being named from only doing one thing as the first consul of life.

    France needed a new and strong government, through the process this code came out as new laws reflecting the enlightenment principles for equality for citizens. Although it was good for citizens to have laws for equality women lost their rights and men gained authority over there wives and children again.

    After naming himself consul for life Napoleon gained enough power in the next couple years to become the emperor of France. He had a ceremony where the pope came to place the crown on Napoleon head, which he rudely took it from the pope and placed it in his head himself. Although people didn’t like this action Napoleon still had over from the plebiscite and reminded to help France rise.

    This battle was brought upon by Napoleon wanting and trying to invade Britain. The battle was fought between the British Royal Navy and they combine flights of the French and Spanish navies. Napoleon got defeated by British fleet. He’s then lied about winning to the people when he returned to France leaving people to think he was full of successes when in reality he wasn’t.

    The unsteady Holy Roman Empire was abolished from the Treaty of Pressburg,when there military was defeated by France during Napoleon’s redrawing of the map. After taking out the old and coming in with the new he created a 38 member confederation of the rhine under Frances protection.
  • Continental System (red)

    Napoleon was taking over Europe for France but couldn’t bring Britain to join its power. Therefore he sent out a blockade towards European ports so people could not get supplies Britain needed to come in or out. This plan of Napoleon failed as neutral ships were seized and Britain still had trade routes to America and India leading to people having resentment to Frances power.

    Spain did not want to join the foreign rule, which led to no French forces in Spain. Napoleon tried very hard to get Spain to join but the people were very loyal to the former king. When Spain did not want to join this rule French got very brutal with trying to inflame Spain, which led to the guerrilla warfare and French soldiers tied down in Spain.

    Tsar Alexander of Russia withdrew from supporting the continental system which other countries didn’t like as well. Napoleon once suppose to work with Tsar was upset by his withdrawal and sent a grand army to Russia to invade it, which Russia just avoided the battles with Napoleon instead of engaging in them.

    The disaster of the invasion of Russia led to a disaster occurring for the Napoleon wars. Russia, Britain, Austria, and Prussia became allies to go against the now weak army of France. Therefore Napoleon and France were defeated leading to Napoleon stepping down from the throne.
  • Hundred days (red)

    The hundred days resulted from napoleons return to Paris from Elba in the Mediterranean. He was quickly triumphant but it was very short. Only getting his glory for 100 days, which then led to the battle of Waterloo where France was defeated again.
  • Waterloo (red)

    Waterloo (red)
    Napoleon was brought back to Paris, which is the new alliance of Russia Britain Austria and Prussia heard about. This did not sit well with them and they were ready for a battle which they defeated the French and only one day which is very long. From the French losing a battle again Napoleon was sent back to exile but instead on Saint Helena which now he would never return. As the Congress of Vienna will now restore Europe.

    Once Napoleon was shown for his success being shattered, countries made alliances to take down the weak French army. This led to him stepping down from power in France and having the victors exiling him to Elba, then appointing a new king.
