I was born in August of 1960

My father began teaching me to fly when I was 7 years old. I flew single-engine airplanes until I was about 23. This experience of hands-on interaction with technology has allowed me to adapt more easily over the years than others my age.
-
I watched the lunar landing about two weeks before turning 9 years old on an old black and white television set.
-
Learning about transportation technology-helped rebuild my first engine.I was introduced to the fun (not really) job of cleaning carbon off of the pistons of the truck engine I helped to rebuild.

Mom brings home our first microwave oven.Turned out the thing was pretty handy for cooking a steak!

I began working in the auto parts and repair industry in September of 1977. I graduated high school in June at age 16, turned 17 in August, and started a career that continues to this day. Old technology was giving way to the integration of electronics and computers, so I learned about the old and the new technologies at the same time. This helped as the years passed to relate vehicle system operations to any new technology that has come along.

I was thrown into the waters of computing and it was sink or swim with the sharks circling around me. I was working as a service manager in a car dealership and had to learn how to use our system to write customer service orders. The guy who had been assigned to me was too busy(not really) to help, so I asked our IT guy to lock me out of anything I could kill, and began to ask questions and learn on my own. That was the hard way, but I figured that if someone else could do it, so could I.

I became an automotive warehouse and parts store manager and oversaw the research, purchase, and installation of a computer system. The new system integrated inventory, procurement, pricing, cataloging, and invoicing. It was like moving from the stone age to space travel. It was industry specific, so it did not operate on Windows.I had to learn a little bit of Windows on a PC so that I could fill in and process payroll, keep the general ledger, and write an occasional letter as needed.

I began my first BA at the ripe old age of 53. When asked to introduce myself to the class and state my age and major, I would tell the kids then say that I still didn't know what I wanted to be when I grew up! I inherited my daughter's old Dell laptop, asked a lot of questions, and delved into the world of Microsoft Windows by reading tons of the Help menu. Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

Finished my BA in December of 2018. Began my MAT in spring of 2019. Still learning new tricks in 2020! Now I'm a 60 year-old college kid.
