    In 1990 Nelson Mandela was freed from a South African prison. He was arrested and sentenced to life in 1962 for charges of sabotage and other offences. It is believe that Mandela, an innocent man spent 27 years in jail for no reason. Nelson Mandela became the president of South Africa in 1994 and his policies were about equality and decreasing poverty. Mandela was even awarded the Nobel Peace Prize
  • Birth

    This is when i was born, the most significant part of my life for obvious reasons. I almost died when i was a baby due to suffocation and i was purple by the time they got me out.
  • Port Arthur Massacre

    Port Arthur Massacre, News reportOn the 28th of April 1996, Martin Bryant open fired at the Port Arthur historic site. 35 people were killed and a further 23 were wounded in the attack. Bryant was found to have intellectual disabilities and is serving the equivalent of 35 life sentences without parole. This event is extremely significant to the Tasmanian people, not only the worst massacre to have happened here by a long way but also one of the world’s biggest mass murders committed by a single man.

    I already had four older sibling and it came as quite a surprise to all of us when mum found out she was having another baby. My baby sister being born is really significant to me and i feel has made us a better family.

    Sky NewsFour years after the World Trade Centre was attacked, London experienced its own terror with the bombings of its public transport. Four suicide bombers detonated, three in the underground train system and one on a Double Decker bus. 52 people lost their lives and 700 more were injured. This event made the world even more scared and there were real possibilities that Australia could be next.

    This was my first time leaving the country. At my high school if you learnt French you had the opportunity to go to New Caledonia. This was a grt experience and it is the only time i have been out of Australia so far.

At the time the media perceived him as a home grown terrorist and the whole nation despised him. It is not until now that we realise he was only doing what he believed to be right at the time, granted it was wrong. He was convicted in April 2007 for his crimes but has been released since, moved back to Australia, married and released a boo

    My pop was my hero and my male role model. His death hit me hard but i am grateful for the time we got to spend with him especially when my family moved in for 6 months in 2006.

    Kevin Rudd's Victory SpeechIn November 2007 the liberal party lost to the labour party. I do not remember parliament without John Howard so this i found was a really significant election. John Howard had been in power since 1995 and in just over a month Kevin Rudd won 87 out of the possible 150 seats.

    Cruise ship capsizesAt the start of the year a massive cruise ship almost ran aground and was turned on its side just off the coast of italy. At least 5 people were killed and many more were missing for days. The blame was on the captain though there are many different stories onhow he managed it. Some say it was showing off others just a error in judgement.
