My Educational Journey: Becoming a Teacher

I was born at the Red Deer regional hospital to two hard-working parents. My mother a teacher and my father a self-employed contractor. I was born with a cleft lip, which caused some complications with my mouth and teeth growth. As a result, I underwent surgery to repair my lip as well as later surgeries to correct my teeth and other issues.

    Learning Disability
I seemed to struggle very much once I started High School, and began to shut down. My mother noticed, and being a teacher experienced in special needs, helped me immensely with different strategies as well as had me assessed.
I was assessed with a learning disability in writing and reading, which allowed me to get the help and supports I needed for my studies. Simple strategies and techniques made a world of difference for me. This is part of the reason I desided to become a teacher.
