Ryan Winkelhake's Timeline

  • Hello, World!

    Hello, World!
I was born at Sharp Hospital in San Diego. This was when I first met my parents and entered the World.
  • Bye-bye, San Diego!

My family moved from San Diego, CA to Phoenix, AZ because of my dad's work. I lived in Arizona the first 4 years of my life. It was HOT! I didn't like it because I prefer cooler weather. But, when I was four years old, I remembered playing outside in the rain with my mom. It was so much fun!
  • My parents divorced

This was a sad time in my life because everything changed. I was too young to understand what was happening. My parents had separate time to spend with me. It took some time to get used to.
  • Moving back to San Diego

After my parents divorced, my mom and I moved back to San Diego and we lived with my grandparents. This was nice because they didn't speak English well, and I was forced to learn how to speak Khmer, which is a language from Cambodia. I am now somewhat proficient in speaking the language.
  • When I became a bookworm

On my eighth birthday, my mom got me a lot of cool presents, including a book John Grisham titled "Theodore Boone, Kid Lawyer". At first I ignored it, but when I started reading it, I couldn't put it down! That's when I thought reading was fun and started reading more and more books.
  • The Happiest Place on Earth

I went to Disneyland for the first time with my dad. It was during Halloween and I saw many people dressed up in their Halloween costumes. My favorite ride was the Haunted Mansion because it was scary! There were holograms of ghosts floating around. We also saw fireworks and it was awesome.
  • Mom graduated law school

    Mom graduated law school
I rode the airplane for the first time on my birthday when we flew to attend my mom's graduation from law school. I was really proud of my mom when she got her diploma. This is when I decided that I wanted to also be a lawyer. This was also the first time I learned how to snowboard and went sledding!
  • Giddy-up!

    Giddy-up!
First time on a horse! My horse's name was Oscar and he was in a few movies! It was fun riding Oscar and he even galloped at the end of the ride. It was bouncy but fun!
  • Good-bye, grandpa

    Good-bye, grandpa
My grandfather away this year. He was 77 years old. It was a very emotional time for me because I was very close to him and loved him very much. I have many happy memories with him, like when we played games when I was younger. I still miss him very much. He taught me to always do my best in everything.
  • I love being out in the ocean

I love being out in the ocean
This is my second time kayaking but first time sea-cave kayaking. It was hard work paddling but it was worth it. We saw fish below us and sea lions swimming by. When my mom and I entered the cave it scary! I even squealed! But we survived!
  • My BIG transition

    My BIG transition
I was nervous but excited. Middle school means more responsibilities but so far, I like it. I have met a lot of new people and made new friends. Also, I am now used to the new schedule.
