  • School in Canada

    School in Canada
It is the first day to a new school that I remembered. Before this day, I have been to a well-known preschool. On this day, I remember feeling uncomfortable around new faces of different races in a different language. I remember telling a classmate "excuse me" in Cantonese and all the other classmates looking at me becuase they didn't undetstand me. I felt embarassed. This was the beginning of my transition from Hong Kong.

My time at this school was wonderful. It was a large cultural transition for me as well. Before, in my kindergarten in Hong Kong, the teachers would make me and the other students line up and wash our hands before lunch. Then, they would provide food and feed us. On my first day, I noticed no one washing their hands before lunch. Children were even eating things that dropped on the groound. This was a very drastic change in my life.
  • Skating

    Skating
I enrolled in skating lessons for several years at the Angus Glen Community Centre. I enjoyed skating at the time. One time, I remember shopping for skates with my mother. There was one pair of skates that looked really nice and I wanted it, but my mother ignored it because it was expense. Then, I tried on the other cheaper skates and none of them fit me. Only the pair I wanted did and we ended up buy those ones.

    Last Day at Reesor Park

I remember friends telling me to not leave, and that they would remember me forever. I said they would forget me by grade 5. When I saw them one year later in grade 4 at Markham Fair, none of them recognized me.

  • First Major Volunteering Experience

I volunteered over the summer at St. Fancis Xavier, the school I went to on Saturdays for Cantonese classes. I had graduated from the classes more than 1 year from this date ago. DECA
This was a major learning experience and change in my life. I started to see the world in more of a business perspective and became curious in the subject. In particular, I learnt about the gains of investment and the time value of money. Despite my newly-aquired knowledge, my scores on the written test and the oral interview were an eye-opener, and I now know there is much more I have left to learn.
  • Pascal Math Contest

    Pascal Math Contest
Having gained confidence and a new standard from my success in the Gauss math contest in 2011, I was dissapointed in my results in the Pascal math contest. I learned that people should not take things for granted, and I set a goal to achieve the highest rating in the next upcoming contest, the Fryer math contest. I achieved my goal in May 2012.

My goal is to get to the provincial level at DECA. Lest time, I was unable to do so. Many people from Markville were able to advance on to the next level while I could only watch and hear of their experiences. This time, I want to have an award presented to me in front of many applauding people.
