I, Rose Bennett, a resident of southern Europe, more specifically southeastern France, have decided to immigrate to America. . Due to the French Revolution that ended a while ago, there is still destruction and effects of the revolution. I have decided that I like the "old" France rather than what it has become from the French Revolution. Also, I want to escape from religious persecution and poverty. I can hardly survive off of the little money that I make in France.
-
After traveling for about two weeks, I finally arrive in America through Ellis Island. I am eager to begin a new life. Also, I will have access to many job opportunities, and I will have religious freedom. Already this is an adventure! I am bringing treasured, generations-old plates and feather pens to America. I possess the skills of cooking, sewing, horse-back riding, writing, reading, and playing the piano. These skills may be helpful in my new life. I also got to see the Statue of Liberty.

I now work in a fairly large facotry where I basically sew for the entire duration of my job. I earn a decent pay for my work. However, the needle work is extremely tedious and repetative. .I ge a few injuries resulting from my needle poking me and puncturing my skin. Also, If we look tired or talk an excessive amount, we get scolded by our boss. However, I still earn money, allowing me to have a living in America, much better than my previous life in France.

I am able to practice my religion of Christianity with a small group of fellow women workers in my sewing factory that all shared the same religious beliefs with me. Practicing my religion with others of the same beliefs makes me a much more positive, happy, and patient person. I am excited to get to know other women like me through Christianity. We share many traits already!

My job at the factory becomes harder and harder, because I am getting more and more fatigued with my work. Also, pay is getting lower for all of the workers, including myself. I still need money pretty badly, and I also can’t handle any more of this horrible work. This is the most negative experience from where I live in America. This is not what I expected my life in America to be like. I yearn for more adventure!
-
I choose to move West, because my job is getting to be too hard, and not worth the stress and pain. Also, I want more adventure and still a new life in America. I strive for new land, adventure, the promise of a new life, and I want to farm and use my skills of cooking and sewing, but to a lesser extent than I currently do. I have heard about all of the opportunity and the land in the West, and I want my share! It sounds so much better than my current factory life.
-
The Homestead Act is what mainly caused me to move to the West, because it allows me to have 160 free acres of land, if I promise to maintain, live on, and improve the land for five years. I am now able to farm as I had wanted to, and still want to. I can also use my cooking, sewing, and horse-back riding skills once I arrive in the West. Now I am even more eager to reach my destination of the West! I am almost there.
-
I arrive in the West, and I purchase a horse, which allows me to move quicker to plant crops, and it will make my life on the farm easier. The horse also offers company. I now have a good transportation method. I also purchased some livestock to raise. I am glad to have made it to the West safely. I could now use my riding skills to my advantage.
-
Drought sweeps through my farm, which makes life very hard. This is an extremely negative experience in the West. The land needs moisture, and my crops are all dying. I have to replant them all.
-
I am successful in replanting all of my crops; my farm is finally back to normal, and looking healthy as ever! I am able to successfully build my life in America so far, and now build my life in the West.
