  • The First Slaves Arrived in English Colonies

    The first slaves were brought to the American colonies. The South's economy became dependent on slave trade.
  • The French-Indian War

    It was the war between Britain and France. Colonists in the South didn't want to spend money on a government militia to fight the French, while the North did.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Fighting broke out in the South becuase in the Declaration of Independence gave more power to the federal govt. rather than the state govt. which the South wanted.
  • Fighting in the South

    Loyalists in the South were fighting the Patriots in the North. British soldiers tried to gain trust of the Southern colonists. Nathaniel Greene and Daniel Morgan joined forces in the North to fight against General Cornwallis of Britain in one of the bloodiest wars in the American Revolution.
  • The War of 1812

    This was the war between Britain and France. The South wanted to trade with Britain and France, and they also wanted Spanish Florida. The North wanted the South to trade with them and put in a protective tariff on foreign trade.
