Haiti Declares Independence
Haiti's original name was "Ayiti, Quisqueya, Bohio." The name was from the original people who lived there. Chris Columbus named it "Hispaniola" meaning "Little Spain," The name changed to "Haiti" meaning mountainous land. The name was given by French settlers. -
Napoleon Declares Himself Emperor.
