At six months old, my parents began reading children's books to me. I believe this contributed to my love of reading throughout my life.

My first grade teacher would allow me to read to the other students because my reading level was advanced beyond many of the other students in my class.

After doing so well in my English classes in my middle school years, I decided to take Honors English classes to challenge myself throughout high school.

Reading this book opened my eyes to books that were written in time periods long before I was born. I learned that different time periods had literature that included different types of language and settings. I began to love reading books that written in earlier time periods.

I received a commended recommendation on all subjects on my TAKS test which helped me to feel more confident in my academic abilities.

After working hard throughout high school, I began my college life at Baylor University where I expanded the types of material I read as I began my courses toward a business degree.

I enrolled in my beginning Business course which required me to create a business plan for any business I wished to start. The writing of the business plan made me think outside of the box in regards to my writing style. The tests in this course where based on the textbook which required us to read over 100 pages each test and memorize the material. Dr. Chonko (pictured) provided me with the best course throughout my college years.

As I began working for Child Protective Services, I realized that I did not have a lot of knowledge about issues children face and so I began to research different issues that abused and neglected children face and read different materials to learn how to help these children to the best of my abilities.

After working 3 years with Child Protective Services, I decided to pursue my graduate degree and become an educator. Since beginning my studies, I have learned a lot about my writing and reading style and have used that information to complete my courses successfully.

I began my teaching career as a long term substitute in a middle school in a Special Education English classroom. I learned that most of the students struggled significantly with the material and began reading content on how to better help the students with their particular learning disability.
