When I was three years old, my father Sent me letters about America and my mother read them to me
-
-
I think back to when I was going to move to America in 1882 but the Chinese Exclusion Act was passed and I wasn't allowed to be welcomed into America.
-
Thinking back I remember the Chinese Exclusion Act being over after ten years and having everything ready for my trip to America. Just when I thought I was ready, my mother came down with a disease. From my background as a doctor, I soon healed her back to normal, but it took two years.
-
I know I have had a long background in the section of doctoring and I think I could be very succesful in that region of work. I also think that when I get to America my father could support me for a while,
-
I begin my journey east to arrive in America soon. I hope I will not be held back very long waiting for inspection. I have heard from my father that the trip all the way across the country was very long but next year a new station is opening for immigrants called Angel Island. All I had with me was the clothes on my back and a 20 dollar bill.
-
Arrive in Angel Island and held for an unknown amount of time because of being Chinese and this was what most Chinese immigrants had to go through
-
After held for two weeks in poor conditions of Angel Island, I become a bit sick from the pollution
-
After the long two weeks of being sick, I finally get better and they let me through the inspections to enter America
-
My father is already in America and I am able to meet with him for the first time since I was three years old
-
I move to the San Fransico Chinatown with my father after being passed in inspection. We move and soon make friends with the many other former Chinese citizens.
-
I found a job as a Chinese doctor in the Chinatown because people want their own kind healing them
-
My father dies of and illness and my fellow doctors and I are unable to save him.
-
I really wanted to move to America because I had heard of many amazing things and my father was waiting for me in America. I have experienced many wornderful things here now and hope to stay forever.
