Psychology Ages and Areas of Development Timeline

    Prenatal to Birth

  • Germinal; the first 14 days

    Zygote duplicates, multiplies, and diffrenciation of the cells begins. Implantation happens.
  • Embryo; week 3

    Mass of cells becomes a distinct being. A line apprears that becomes the neural tube 22 days after conception.
  • Embryo: week 4

    Head forms, and eyes, ears, nose, and mouth begin to. Also the blood vessel that will become the heart begins to pulsate.
  • Embryo: weeks 5-8

    Arm and leg buds appear, with all parts such as shoulders, knees, feet, and hands. The beginnining ofthese skeletal structures. At 52-54 days the fingers and toes seperate.

    Sex organs may be visible.
  • 4-6 months

    Heart beat becomes stronger, digestive and excretory systems develop, fingernails, toenails, and teeth buds form, the brain increases 6 times in size, and organs begin to work together.

    Neurological, respiratory, and cardiovascular systems mature. Fetus gains about 4.5 pounds.

    I was born around 7 pm and weighed 8 pounds, 4 ounces.

    Develop social fear and seperation anxiety. I cried when my mom dropped me off at preschool.

    Brain growth and body size. a 7 pound newborn will be around 21 pounds and 12 months. The brain is about 25% of weight at birth and 75% of weight at age 2.

    Cannot recall memories because they didn't have words to associate them with. I cannot remember the vacation I went on when I was two because I didn't have words for it.

    Dominant hand is recognized. Mine was my left hand.

    Fast mapping is sticking words into categories instead of learning definitions. At age 2 you know around 500 words, and by age 6 you know around 10,000. I learned my colors by fast mapping, I knew there are a lot of shades of blue.

    Effortful control becomes easier. Around age 6 I learned how to be mad without throwing an uncontrollable fit.

    Arond age 7 selective attention develops. I was able to take tests or do homework at home without being distracted by other students or my dog barking.

    I have high school area achievment because I had extensive cognitive stimulation during my early childhood. My mom always read to me and did learning activities with me.

    Popularity becomes more about sports, dominance, and arrogance. The unpopular kids may be antagonistic. I was unpopular because I did not let older kids pick on me, I would antagonize them back and they did not like it.

    I began puberty, and because I started puberty so young I look more mature than a lot of girls in my grade, and I get made fun of.

    I am experiencing adolscent egocentrism. In middle school I cared about what everyone thought about me. I would wake up extra early in the morning so I could do my hair and makeup.

    I am starting to bicker with my parents a lot. I'm almost sixteen and they won't give me the independence I want.

    Time management is something I've gotten very good at. Being a full time student and having two jobs has made me learn what needs to come first, what can be put off, and when I have time for everything I need to get done.
