PSYC 254 Personal Development Timeline

  • No Western Medical Prenatal Testing

My mom did all her own prenatal care, studied with a midwife, and had zero ultrasounds or prenatal testing.
  • Born

Home birth, I was born in water and my mom and dad were the only two people present (midwife on call)
  • Started walking at 9 months

Motor milestone (pg. 95) and the sensorimotor stage of development as I am learning about my physical reality and how my body moves.
  • 2 1/2 Years Old - Little Brother Born

Went from being an only child to having to share my parents with another human
  • Imaginary Friend Time - Jesse Got Very Sick

Jesse (little brother) got extreme eczema (skin condition) and he became very, very sick. A big enough stressor in my life that I made up an imaginary friend during this time. This is Piaget's preoperational stage in which I am still a little bit fuzzy on what is real and what is imaginary. My friend was very real to me, because what I saw I thought was real (pg 22)
  • Mom Went Back To Work Full Time

My mom went back to work full time and my dad came home to be a stay at home dad. This was a giant shock for me because me and my mom were so bonded.
  • Parents Almost Get Divorced

Tense and stressful time in our family, as my parents almost got divorced. Impacted Jesse and I.
  • Moved To Neighborhood I Grew Up In

Moved into the neighborhood that completely changed my social situation. All of the sudden I became surrounded by tons of kids my age and I became friends with the people that are still my closest friends today at 22 years old.
  • My Grandma Died

We spent seven weeks with my grandmother who was dying of colon cancer at her home in Indiana. She died at the end of those seven weeks and she was the first person close to me to die. This GREATLY affected my mom, which in turn greatly affected me.
  • My Very First "Boyfriend"

When I was 13 I had my very first "boyfriend." As in, we walked down the hall holding hands.
  • I Gained A Sister

We hosted an exchange student from Mexico this year. Her and I shared a room and did eveything together and we really became sisters. We were very close and then she went back to Mexico at the end of the year and it was actually like losing a sibling. (Well into Piaget's Concrete Operational Stage)
  • Grandpa Died of Alzheimer's

My Grandfather died of Alzheimer's disease when I was 14 years old, leaving me with only one surviving grandparent.
  • Started High School

  • Accepted To College

I got accepted to my fisrt choice school (University of Colorado Boulder) with a big chunk of financial aid and I accepted!
  • Graduated High School

Graduated from Bayfield High School (Well into Piaget's Formal Operational Stage)
