    This was when Europeans engaged in the exploration of the world. This time period is seen as a bridge between the middle ages and the modern era. Most of the voyages were led by either Portuguese or Spanish people. Some historians say that they went on this exploration to find alternative trade routes to "the Indies".

    Christopher Columbus started his voyages during the Age of exploration
    Christopher Columbus had three sperate voyages that he went on. The first was in 1492, in searh for a direct sea route from Europe to Asia. Instead of doing this, he found himself landing on the Americas and became famous for this. He believed that it was only a matter of time until a passage was found through the Carribean Islands to Asia.

    This began a war. As the war dragged on many itlalian artists and writers left for a safer life in Northern Europe. This meant that they brought to Northern Europe the styles and techniques of the Italian Renaissance. Also, Northern European artists who studied in Italy carried Renaissance ideas back to their homelands.This is where the srpead of artistic ideas came from.
