    In the face of Napoleon’s rise to power Francis II abdicated and with this the Holy Roman Empire ended after 1,000 years.

    This was a blockade of ships that were used to block off Britain from trading with other countries in Europe. The plan was to force the British into surrendering but they ended up outlasting Napoleon. It lasted until December 17, 1807.

    This invasion was a failure as while the French managed to push their way into Russia they eventually had to retreat after the harsh winter and lack of crops left them frost bitten and starved. It lasted until December 14, 1812.

    This was another one of Napoleon’s losses and as a result of the defeat Napoleon had abdicated for the first time and he was exiled to Elba. The battle ended on October 19.

    While this period includes Napoleon’s return to the throne it also ends with him being dethroned and exiled to St. Helena so therefore it is both a victory and failure.
