On December 22: During the battle of Toulon, Napoleon fought extremely bravely in the Mediterranean and was promoted to a General of the French army.

On August 9-20, Napoleon is imprisoned under suspicion of being a Jacobin and a supporter of Robespierre. Robespierre was a dictator like ruler who cause the reign of terror in France. People were killed for speaking against him. Although Napoleon was not involved with Robespierre, he was arrest anyway.

March 11: Italian campaign against Austria begins
May 10: Napoleon wins the Battle of Lodi
November 17: Napoleon wins the Battle of Arcole
January 14: Napoleon wins the Battle of Rivoli
October 17: Treaty of Campo-Formio with Austria.
December 5: Napoleon returns to Paris as a hero

Napoleon marries Josephine. They were married for 13 years during which they constantly exchanged letters of love while Napoleon was at war. Josephine was the daughter of a member of the Directory in which Napoleon overthrew to gain power over France.

July 21: Battle of the Pyramids was waged by France in order to gain control of Egypt. Napoleon led this war.
August 1: At the Battle of the Nile Napoleon is defeated by Britain and cut off from France. He has no supplies/food to continue fighting Britain.

November 9, Napoleon overthrow the Directory and is named the First Consulate. He ruled over France as a dictatorship and sought to expand the influences of France.

Napoleon leads conquests throughout Europe. Most notably he defeated the Austrian and Russian armies easily. All these victories made all of Europe fear France.

Napoleon establishes himself as a major power within Europe and due to that he was able to sign the Concordat. The Concordat allowed him to have total influence over the Roman Catholic Church.

Napoleon brought prosperity to France, they had influence over Europe. Due to Napoleon’s accomplishments he was named Consul for Life. During the rule he sold the US a large piece of land. This US purchase is now known as the Louisiana purchase. He also became President of the Republic of Italy.

Napoleon establishes the Napoleonic Code to win the hearts of the people. This code allowed freedom of speech, due process, Habeas Corpus and many other rights that weren’t available under a monarchy. Napoleon was the first in France to give people these rights. However, these only applied to crimes that weren’t against the government.
Due Process: If you were to be blamed for a crime there would still be a court process before they can determine if you are guilty.

Napoleon went to Notre Dame Cathedral and named himself the Emporer of France. Due to his rise of power no one in France objected and instead got many people's support. Orginally he was known as the Consul for Life but in order to gain more respect he changed the title to Emporer.

Napoleon defeated the Prussian army, ended the Holy Roman Empire and established the Confederacy of the Rhine. The only country left untouched is Britain. Napoleon establishes the Continental System in order to harm Britain’s economy. The Continental System: Forced all the countries that were under Napoleon’s rule (essentially all of Europe) to end trade with Britain and instead trade with France.

Napoleon with the help of Spain defeats Portugal and invaded Prussia. He successfully defeated both the Prussians and Russians and forced them to join the Continental System. At the same time Spain attempted to wipe out all of French influence and Napoleon had to step in and recapture Madrid.

Napoleon divorces his wife Josephine because she didn't give him a son to pass on the kingdom.
Guérard 89 -
Russia leaves the continental system forcing Napoleon to once again attack Russia. This time he marched straight into Moscow to be ambushed by the Russian, Prussian and Austrian army. This ended his reign and sent him into exile in Elba. Concert of Europe was established to make sure that no country would ever have that much influence in Europe ever again.

Napoleon marries Marie Louisse to gain power in the Austrain monarchy.
Guérard 89 -
Napoleon fled Elba and mustered up troops and regained rule of France. He reigned for 100 days until the Battle of Waterloo where he met his final downfall. He was sent to live in St. Helena which was an island in Africa.

Napoleon dies at St. Helena by drinking himself to death.
