Napoleon invaded Italy and it was a success because he received control over Italy. He also got some soldiers from Italy who fought for him.

Egyptian Campaign ❌

The Egyptian campaign was an expedition Napoleon lead. It was meant to disrupt British trade with India. It was a disaster but he hid stories of his worst losses from his people in France. So it was unsuccessful.

Consulate ✅

The consulate was a success because it was a top level Government of France.

Banque de France ✅

1800

The Banque de France was used to foster economic recovery after the strong recession. It gave France a stable currency so it was successful.

Concordat of 1801 ✅

1801

The Concordat of 1801 was a success because it defined the status of the Roman Catholic Church in France.

Consul for Life ✅

Jul 2, 1802

The consul for life declared Napoleon the only ruler of France. It was successful because he developed the Napoleonic Code and negotiated the Concordat of 1801.

Napoleonic Code 🟡

This code deprived women of any individual rights, reduced the rights of illegitimate children, and made men's authority over their families grow. It was both a success and a fail because many nations did adopt it but it reintroduced slavery.

Declared Self Emperor ✅

Napoleon had a huge ceremony for him being crowned self emperor. He made the pope come to him, and he took the crown from the pope and put it on himself. But it was a success because he was the highest ruler of France and he was able to expand his empire through wars against different coalitions.

Resistance in Spain ❌

1805

Napoleon introduced reforms that sought to undermine the Spanish Catholic Church. But, many people stayed loyal to their former king. Spanish patriots had efforts to drive the French out intensified. They conducted a campaign of guerrilla warfare. The small attacks they were doing kept large numbers of French Soldiers unable to help Napoleon when he needed them elsewhere. So, it was a failure for Napoleon.

Battle of Trafalgar ❌

This battle was between the British Royal Navy and the combined fleets of Spain and France. It ruined Napoleon's plans of invading England, so it was unsuccessful.

Abolishes Holy Roman Empire ✅

Jul 5, 1806

This was a success for Napoleon because it gave him more power. He definitively destroyed the Holy Roman Empire and forced the emperor to resign from his position.

Continental System ❌

Nov 21, 1806

Napoleon's Continental System failed to work. British exports declined, but Britain had a powerful navy which kept vital trade routes open to the Americas and India. This was a fail for him.

Invasion of Russia 🟡

1812

This was both a success and a fail for Napoleon. He wanted to force Russia into the Continental blockade of the British. It led to Russian victory, but also went down as one of the most well planned strategies of all time.

Battle of Nations at Leipzig ❌

Oct 16, 1813

Napoleon fought the armies of Russia, Austria, and Sweden. It was unsuccessful because the French lost and had to go back to France.

100 days ❌

Mar 21, 1814

Napoleon stepped down from power and the victors exiled him to Elba. They then recognized Louis XVIII as king of France. The 100 days marked the period between his return from Elba to Paris. It was a failure because he was exiled for a long period of time.

Abdication ✅

Jun 22, 1814

The victors exiled Napoleon to Elba, a small Mediterranean island. It was mostly a success because an economic depression and the fear of a return to the old regime helped rekindle loyalty to Napoleon. He escaped his exile and he returned to France with soldiers and his people still by his side.

Waterloo ❌

Jun 18, 1815

For Napoleon, Waterloo was a major failure. It was a day long battle where British forces and a Prussian army crushed the French. Again. he was forced to go into exile and he did not return that time.
