    Napoleon is born on August 15, 1769, to parents Carlo Buonaparte and Letizia Ramolino. He was born in Ajaccio, Corsica, a French owned island in the Medtirranean. This was important because he would later go on to lead French armies during the French revolution, become emperor, and create a vast French Empire. (McGuire)

    At the ripe old age of 9, Napoleon starts his military training. His parents sent him to a military school in Brienne, France. This was where he started to learn all of his war tactics and strategies.     In 1793, Napoleon was promoted to Brigadier general, and in 1795, a government official told Napoleon to defend the delegates and the convention against the uprising. He and his gunners shot down 1,400 royalists and put an end to the uprising. He also drove the British army out of Toulon. (Henderson)

    Napoleon gets married to Josephine de Beauharrais. They would later get divorced, but for a while, she was the empress of France, and when Napoleon croned himself emperor, he put the crown on Josephine as well, naming her empress.     First Campaign in Italy

    Napoleon led the first of his 2 campiagns in Italy in 1796. He was outnumbered by the Austrians and their allies, the Piedmontese, and the odds were not on his side. He decided to isolate both armies and take them on seperately. First he beat the Piedmontese easily and then defeated the Austrians, resulting in the Treaty of Campo Formio. This was important because it showed Napoleon's increbible intelligence, and war strategy. (PBS)

    Beethoven makes his debut in 1800 with his first symphony at the age of 29. This symphony was performed in C Major and was Beethoven's first big hit.     At the Notre Dame Cathdral in 1804, Pope Pius VII handed Napoleon the crown. He put the crown on his own head signifying that he was more powerful than the church. He then went to his wife Josephine de Beauharrais, and crowned her his empress. This event was importnat because Napoleon showed that he was more significant than the church, and he became much more powerful with the title of "emperor Napoleon I" (Beck)

    Napoleon Takes Control of Europe

    Napoleon started really taking control of Europe during the Napoleonic Wars. The War of the Third Coalition started on December 2, 1805, and the French beat the Austrians at the Battle of Ulms. Also in 1805, they beat the Austrians again at the Battle of Austerlitz. In 1806, Napoleon crushed the Prussians at the Battle of Jena, and by 1808 Napoleon had control of almost all of Europe. The only countries not under French rule were England, Sweden, Portugal, and the Ottoman Empire. (historyofwar)

    Edgar Allen Poe was born in 1809 and was a famous writer. He did not have much family, and married his cousin who was only 13 years old. He was poor most of his life and made a living off writing short stories, poems, and novels. Some of his works include "The Raven", and "The Tell Tale Heart".     Napoleon's most significant and costly mistake in his losing power was when he tried to invade Russia in 1812. Their relations with Russia had broken down so Napoleon attacked with over 500,000 soldiers. Instead of fighting, the Russians took a different approach. They burned Napoleon's food, livestock, and clothing, forcing him to retreat. Over 400,000 of Napoleon's soldiers died from the cold, starvation, or attacks from the Russians during their retreat.     In New Orleans, Louisiana, the Battle of New Orleans was fought between England, and the United States. This was considered the last major battle of the war of 1812, even though it happened after the war had ended. The treaty of Ghent had been signed December 24, 1814, but word had not gotten around and many soldiers lost their lives in a battle that did not even matter. This was important because it unofficially marked the end of the war of 1812, and it was a very unusual battle. (Grun)

    The battle of Waterloo occurred in Belgium, and was the time when Napoleon lost all power as an emperor. His troops of 74,000 men went up against the British and their allies troops of 67,000 men. The French fought a bloody battle against the British, Belgians, Prussians, Germans, and Dutch. The British and allies came out on top and Napoleon's reign was finally over. This event was important because it put an end to the Napoleonic Wars and Napoleon's empire. (historyofwar.com)

    Napoleon died in St. Helena, a British island in the south atlantic. It is not known how exactly he died, but it most scientists think it was from stomach cancer. This happened 6 years after Napoleon had lost all power, and abdicated. After he did so, he moved to St. Helena, and while there he was sick, and posed for portraits with his hand on his stomach which may have indicated he had stomach cancer. This was important because he was one of the most powerful leaders in history (History.com).

    In 1821, Mexico got its independance from Spain. The independance war started in 1810, and Augustin de Iturbide, led the Mexican army to defeat Spain's army. On August 24, 1821, the Treaty of Cordoba was signed, giving Mexico its independance. This was important because now Mexico would be an nation of its own, and not be under Spanish rule. (history.com)
