Napoleons army of more than 600,000 menentered Russia, but the Russians refused to fight. Instead they retreated hundreds of miles & burned all their villiages & countrysides so Napoleons army couldn't find food. Lots of them froze to death and starved, and the remaining 40,000 soldiers arrived back in Poland in January 1813.

Napoleon decided to invade Russia, leading to his downfall. Military disaster crippled the French army, and paris was captured. Napoleon was sent to exile on the islad of Elba, off the northwest coast of italy. The monarchy returned to France.

Napoleon slipped back into France & returned to Paris in triumph. he attacked the British and Prussian army & was defeated. He was exiled to St. Helena, and died there in 1821.
