    Jacques Cartier Explores the St. Lawrence

    Jacques Cartier was sent by France to look for a passageway to Asia and precious metals. France lost interest when he failed.

    The French Regime

    The French Regime was the period of time that France had control of New France. It began with the colonization of territory in North America around the St. Lawrence and ended when France lost the Seven Years War and had to give control of New France to Great Britain.
  • Samuel de Champlain founds Quebec

    Samuel de Champain founded Quebec to facilitate fur trading with amerindians.
  • Company of 100 Associates Attempts to Populate the Colony

    The King of France wanted to make his colony to develop in order to keep up with the british colony so he ordered the Company of 100 Associates to populate the colony.
  • Sieur de Laviolette founds Trois-Rivieres

    Samuel de Champlain put Sieur de Laviolette in charge of founding a second settlement so he founded Trois-Rivieres to allow furriers to communicate with each other and prevent the iroquois from intercepting trades.
  • Paul Chomedey founds Ville-Marie

    Paul Chomedey founded Ville-Marie to evangelize the amerindians.
  • Jean Talon Takes Measures to Populate the Colony

    The King realized that ordering the Company of 100 Associates wasn't enough to populate the colony efficiently so he ordered his first intendant, Jean Talon, to populate the colony. Jean Talon did two things. He gave every soldier the oppurtunity to own free land in New France once he finished his time in the military. Les Filles du Roi were homeless girls who were made pretty and sent to New France to get married and have children.
  • Jean Talon's Census

    The King ordered Jean Talon to write up a census to determine how many men out of the entire population of New France could be recruited for military purposes.
  • Signing of the Treaty of Ryswick

    The first intercolonial war between New France and the 13 Colonies ended when the Treaty of Ryswick was signed.
  • The Great Peace of Montreal was signed

    The French participated in wars against the Iroquois to prove they were good allies to other natives but eventually, the signing of the Great Peace of Montreal ended the war between the two.
  • Slavery is Legalized

    Slavery was legalized by Intendant Raudot.
  • Signing of the Treaty of Utrecht

    The second intercolonial war ended when the Treaty of Utrecht was signed.
  • Birth Incentives Declared Successful in New France

    Jean Talon had implanted Birth Incentives into Newe France to increase the population's growth. These incentives encourage men to get married early and have plenty of children in exchange for money. Those who didn't got increased taxes.
  • Distribution of Parishes

    82 parishes were distributed along the St. Lawrence to spread religion.
  • Signing of the Treaty of Aix-La-Chappelle

    The third intercolonial war ended when the Treaty of Aix-La-Chappelle was signed.
  • The British Deport the Arcadians

    The British did this becausee they were trying to take oer Quebec.
  • The Beginning of the Seven Years War

    Due to a rivalry between France and Great Britain in Europe, another war began called the Seven Years War. This war also made the respective colony of each side (New France and 13 Colonies) war against each other just like their parent countries.

    Jean Talon determined that by this time, the majority of New France's population was composed of farmers.
  • Signing of the Royal Proclamation

    The fourth intercolonial war between New France and 13 Colonies ended when the Seven Years War ended in Europe. It ended with the signature of the Royal Proclamation. Other than ending the Seven Years War, this treaty also served by assimilating the remaining french population into english-speaking people. It also created the Test Act which prevented french people from gaining power; it did this by not letting Roman Catholics attain power.

    The British Regime was the period of time that Great Britain has control over Canada. It began when France lost the Seven Years War and had to give New France to Great Britain and ended when Canada became a Federation.

    This treaty was signed because Great Britain had lost its 13 Colonies in the American Revolution.

    After the war between the British and the French in Europe ended, the continential population began growing which caused a lack of available jobs and increased poverty so many people immigrated to americas.

    There was a Cholera Epidemic thanks to the increased immigration in Canada. As a result, all immigrants are put into quarentine for a period of time to assure that they aren't carrying diseases.
