My Technology Story

  • Game Boy Color

    Game Boy Color
This is the first thing that popped into my mind. I was five years old, and my grandmother got a Game Boy Color for me and two or three of my cousins (it's hard to keep track there's seven of them). We got our favorite colors - mine was purple. I remember thinking how "cool" it was to see through the Game Boy. I don't remember what games we got, but it was probably Pokemon. image from Lukie Games
  • Typing Class

    Typing Class
In middle school, we were required to take a typing class. This was the first time I had ever really used a keyboard for its intended purposes. My teacher used to put quarters on the tops of our hands to make sure that we had correct positioning and posture. I did enjoy blasting asteroids from the sky while playing the typing games. image from Best Buy
  • The Sims

    The Sims
Although The Sims came out earlier than 2006, I wasn't able to expense it until then. My cousins and I would build elaborate mansions, but we would always use cheat codes to get more money. Anyone else remember typing "rosebud;:;:;:" until you thought you had enough money? image from The Sims Wiki
  • Research Papers

    Research Papers
I hadn't really had much experience with research papers until high school. Most of my middle school Language Arts classes focused on reading summarizing or sentence structure. My freshman year of high school our teacher asked us to type a research paper using three internet sources and one book source. I don't remember what the paper was about, but I do remember having to go over and over citing information in a paper and formatting. image from craftanessay.com
  • iPod Nano

    iPod Nano
I was so excited when I was able to buy myself an iPod. I was even more excited that it was purple! I was now free to be one of the mysterious kids on the band bus that always had earphones in even though my music wasn't always on. I used this iPod a few years later to load marching band music for my senior year of high school when I was drum major, so I could practice. I still have this iPod! image from Amazon
  • Online Classes

I had signed up for my first round of online classes. I took them over the summer so that I was still able to work. I had signed up for Biology 102, History 1877-Present, and Art Appreciation. I struggled at first because I had no idea how to do online coursework, but I prevailed and was able to pass!
  • Master's Degree

    Master's Degree
A year after graduating, I decided to start my Master's degree. I also had to work, so I was excited to find that Marshall offered an online degree in Education. I am able to complete all the coursework online through BlackBoard, and I am able to contact all of my professors through email. image from Marshall University
  • BellaRose

    BellaRose
This is probably the most important part of my technology story. I was able to access my daughter's newborn pictures online and print as many as I wanted. I did not have to wait for prints or decide to only get a few. I was able to get them and print whichever ones I wanted, how big I wanted, and however many times I wanted. Needless to say, I have printed a lot of pictures.
