    The First Irish Settler To Arrive In Canada

    His name is not known, but records show that he arrived in the winter of 1536. He arrived in what is now Newfoundland, and continued to fish and he had done in Ireland. It is assumed that he had children. He had a small fishery that he made his living off of for his lifespan in Canada. He was from Cork.
  • Daniel LeBlanc Arrives In Canada

    My first know relative to arrive in Canada, Daniel LeBlanc. He arrived in Newfoundland in the spring of 1645. He was a fisherman and worked in the fishing industry almost his entire time in Canada. He even had his own boat for fishing. His descenadts reach both sides of my family, my mom's and my dad's.

  • The Biggest Portion Of Irish Settlers Immigrate To Canada Between 1830-1880

    The Famine, economic downturn and government instability in Ireland pushed a large portion of the population out of the country. Many of the people who emigrated came to North America because there was word of little conflict within Canada, a booming economy, and resemblance of Irish culture.

    My Grandma's grandpa(on my dad's side) arrived in Canada with his family in Canada, from Cork Ireland (like the first Irish settler) and he was an O'Brien. He arrived in Pier 21.

    My dad's mom is born, Maureen Delvenia Coleman (O'Brien). She is the oldet of five girls and has given birth to four boys, one of them being my dad. She has been a big part of furthering Irish culture in our family (as well as my grandpa Greek traditons) even after his passing. She was also my interviewee for the Transcript.

    Igor Gouzenko was a turning point and a valuable asset to Allies during the Cold War. There was much information that he shared with the Western World, when he defected to Canada. In doing so he was instrumental in allowing for a greater security in Canada and North America. He also gave Canada the image (indirectly) of refugees, whom have fled from a country they find unreasonable or unsafe. It applies to me because I may be safer today because of his actions.

It reflects the beliefs and ideals of many Canadians still today as well. This relates to me me becausem I identify and feel like I uphold all the things he speaks to and about Canadians being and how we should be as a nation.

    My dad was born second in his family. He is one of four boys. He continues the Coleman name and has had three of fourteen Coleman grandkids. Nine of which are boys, and I am right in the middle at seven.

    About the Signing of the Constitution This picture is representative of Canada's more inclusive, and changing identity in the 1980s and 1970s. In this image Pierre Trudeau and Queen Elizabeth II sign the 'New Constitution of Canada' which provides more rights and more freedoms to Canada's population as a whole. This relates to me because a portion of my family is first-language French, and they were included more.

    The oldest Coleman cousin Alyssa (born February 23rd, 1990) and she is the oldest of fourteen of us. The youngest is my sister, and she was born in 2004. We all carry on tradition and my Grandma (Moda) goes from household to household during the week to have dinner with each family and talk about the extended O'Brien family and ongoings in our lives. We for the most part, on all sides of my familysonsider oursleves to be 100% Canadian.

    This quote reflects on state of the Canadian military and armed forces in present day. It also reflects the views of most Canadians and the Canada’s position as a whole on the war in Afghanistan. McKay speaks to how we as a nation, are thankful for the effort, sacrifice, bravery and service of the men and women of our armed forces; who served in Afghanistan. We were obligated to go, even though it isn’t and wasn’t our war. This relates to me because I respect the armed forces and I feel safer.
