My Literacy Story

    With the Grandparents
Growing up, my grandparents babysat me while my parents were at work. At the same time, I was in love with Motocross. Anything I could do with Motocross, I was on it. At the time, looking through MX magazines at my grandparents was what that was. I especially enjoying looking at a specific one with my two favorite riders, at the time, on it, Travis Pastrana and Kevin Windham.

    Time Goes On
As I grow up a little bit, and have a dirt bike of mine, my love for the sport grows. Still being with my grandparents, they felt somewhat responsible for teaching me the fundamentals of literacy. My Grandma first tried with the typical children's books, but soon learned that wasn't the route to go with me. Instead, she found that helping me read through a Motocross Magazine would work wonders.
  • First Bike

    First Bike
Growing up with my dad who was always into Motocross, it was only a matter of time before this happened.
  • Times with Dad

    Times with Dad
By the time I was 5, my dad and I were travelling all over the Southeast racing Motocross. I missed a lot of school for this, which my dad tried to make up for by telling me about his experiences with school and how I should always put getting an education before anything else, and try hard while doing it.

When I was 7, I had my mind set on becoming a Professional Motocross Racer. Obviously that didn't happen, but what did was I started to care a lot less about school, and more about finding ways around it.
  • Change of Pace

    Change of Pace
Growing up a little more, I started to not care at all about school. However, once I started becoming a decent baseball player, I had to change that. I couldn't play if I had bad grades, so with that, Motocross got dropped off my plate, and school and baseball was on it. I enjoyed baseball all of the way up until my Junior year, where I became completely burnt out on it. After that, I knew exactly what I was going to do next.
  • First Love

    First Love
It's funny to think how something you loved can stick with you all of these years, and still gets you fired up like nothing else, 10 years later, but Motocross sure can do that for me. After I decided to stop playing baseball, I was back on the bikes and had an even bigger smile on my face than I did when I was 7 years old.
  • Where will I go?

    Where will I go?
Motocross will always be a part of my life for so many different reasons. I raced growing up, constantly watched the stars of the sport over years, and even learned a little bit about reading and writing through it. I am hoping that I can end up having a job within the industry and with that, I will have a job that I can truly say, "I've never worked a day in my life."

    Back to the Books
This timeline wouldn't be complete if I didn't draw back to the literacy that has stuck out in my mind when it comes to Motocross, so here it is. I am still an active subscriber to the Racer X Magazines that I grew up reading as a kid, and still read them cover to cover.
