My life

  • Born - Personal

I was born in Austin, Texas to Jimmy and Linda Nichols.
  • Sibling born - Personal

My younger sister, Katie was born.
Katie's birth has been one of the greatest blessings in my life despite the fact that it gave me the unfortunate family position of "middle child".
  • Moved to a new city - Personal

Moved with my family to Franklin, Tennessee.
Although my family moved several times before, this move was different. This is the place where my adult life began and is the reason I call Tennessee home today.
  • Moved to a new city- Personal

Moved with my family to Miami, Florida.
This move took me out of my comfort zone and into a world where the first language was Spanish and I was a minority. I briefly attended High School as a junior before returning to Tennessee without the rest of my family.
  • Moved without my family - Personal

I left my family in Florida and moved back to Franklin, Tennessee.
I moved back to Franklin to live with a close family friend and finish High School where I began. This decision was made carefully and turned out well. As difficult as it was to leave my family, the opportunities for college were better in Tennessee and I was only leaving home a year before my peers.
  • Graduated from High School - Professional

Graduated from Centennial High School in Franklin, TN.
Graduating from high school was the first step in becoming an adult and beginning my professional career.
Without a high school diploma, college is not possible.
This particular event may not directly effect my teaching social studies, however I developed a love for certain aspects of social studies in high school, which I hope will have a positive impact on my ability to teach it.
  • Graduated from college - Professional

Graduated from the University of Tennessee.
This event was a huge accomplishment because school never came easy to me and many people (including myself) probably thought I would never make it this far in my education.
Having a college degree has become essential to most professions.
My degree in Child and Family Studies as well as Psychology will be very helpful to me as a teacher of all subjects, but especially social studies because so much of the subject involves understanding people.
  • Child Life Internship - Professional

Accepted as a Child Life intern at East Tennessee Children's hospital.
This event was extremely important to me because Child Life internships are required for the profession and therefore extremely competitive.
I worked with children and their families during very difficult times in their lives, which gave me many important people skills.
This experience gave me knowledge about working with people in unusual circumstances, which will be helpful when teaching social studies.
  • 21st Mortgage - Professional

First real job as a Financial Counselor at 21st Mortgage Corp.
This was my first real, full-time job.
This event was important because I learned how to work within a company as a true professional.
I believe working at 21st will effect my teaching social studies because it taught me a lot about working with other people and the importance of communication. I also believe it helped me realize I am not meant to work in an office and that I am unfulfilled when not working with children.
  • Niece born - Personal

My niece, Hayden, was born to my sister, Amanda, and her husband, Chip.
This event was important to me because I became an aunt for the first time. I love that little girl so much it is hard to imagine how much I will love my own children.
  • Met husband - Personal

I met my husband, Michael, while working at 21st Mortgage.
This event is obviously important because I found my soul mate and best friend.
  • Bought first home - Personal

Although we were only engaged, Michael and I bought our first home together on this day.
This event is important because it was a very big step in our lives as a married couple.
  • Got Married - Personal

    Got Married - Personal
I finally got to marry Michael!
This is one of the most important events of my life for obvious reasons.
  • Nephew born - Personal

My nephew, Landon, was born to my sister, Amanda, and her husband, Chip.
This event was a huge blessing because we finally have a little boy in the family (besides the husbands). I love him as much as his sister and take being aunt Meg very seriously.
  • Started Graduate School - Professional

Entered Carson-Newman for a masters degree in teaching K-6. I was also blessed with the opportunity to become a graduate assistant for the department.
This was a huge leap of faith for me, but I feel very strongly that God called me to attend CN and become a teacher.
This event has influenced my professional life giving me the knowledge and skills required for beginning my career as a teacher.
This event will effect my teaching soical studies specifically with the SS methods course.
