    When boarding a train, Gandhi held a ticket for first class, but the conductor attempted to make him board first class. Gandhi refused and the conductor threw Gandhi off of the train for his fighting back on the matter. This was one of the first acts done upon Gandhi that made him consider the British Imperialistic system in India, a turning point in his life.

    The Natal Indian Congress is founded (ACT OF PROTEST)
    The Natal Indian Congress was an organization founded by Ghandi with a common goal to fight discrimination against Indian people in South Africa. The congress came into place under constitution and proposed many early petitions for changes in discrimination in India. The group allied later with the African National Congress, South Africa's primary political party to continue the fight for Indian Independance.

    British troops fired upon a group of peaceful protesters, killing a large number and forever tarnishing British - Indian relations. The protestors were protesting the recent Rowlatt Acts, passed on behalf of WWI. The 10,000 protesters were protesting the recently passed Rowlett Acts, a series of laws which extended India's emergency WWI powers.

    Gandhi tells the Indian people to begin revolt and uprising towards the British rule non violently and passively. Gandhi went on to use many forms of non-violent protest throughout his lifetime including fasting, marching, unlawful salt production, and citizen lead protests. He encouraged all of his followers to never enact violence to get what they want and to do so passively.

    In attempt to non violently revolt against the British, Gandhi encouraged his followers to burn all British made clothing and make their own instead. Gandhi was known for spinning his own robes and the method quickily begin to spread throughout India to Hindu's and Muslims supporting his cause. This was related to other acts of disaproving British produced goods, and throught the rest of his lifetime Gandhi continued encouraging his followers to not support items made by the British.

    Gandhi organized a march to the coast to collect salt. All was an attempt to revolt against the British taxation on salt. The result of his march was the closing of many British buisinesses because of the sudden abundance of salt among citizens.

    As a result of the Salt March, Indian citizens began getting their hands on salt and selling it for personal profit, The British began going after these citizens and arresting them for the unlawful sale of salt, a resource taxed and regulated by the British government. In the salt production in the hands of Indian citizens, the British were losing money and influence.

    Following Gandhi's salt march and the sudden abundance of salt among the citizens, the British, in attempt to cut illegal salt production, beat down Indians protesting the salt tax. An eyewitness american reporter described the indians going down as "Ten-pins."

    Gandhi, in attempt to protest British support of a new constitution, announced that he would 'fast to death'. The new constitition was set to continue discrimination and caste seperation against the untouchables, and to continue an unfair difference in Indian citiziens. Gandhi did not die this way, as conflict and fighting began to cease as his condition began to poor. The event caught the attention of world journalists and news everywhere.

    Muslim and Hindu riots begin, India is split (BRITISH IMPERIALISM)
    Due to religious and economical differences stretching back centuries, Hindus and Muslims begin fighting. As a result of this, the British split India into two countries - Pakhistan and India, to attempt to seperate the groups and ensure peace and distance between the two. There was high risk of danger because of the constant difference and conflict between these two religious groups, and the split was to ensure safety for India's people despite their belief differences.

    While entering a prayer meeting, Gandhi was shot by Hindu extremist Nathuram Godse. It was expected that a Muslim would have done the deed, but Godse believed Gandhi was going to far in his protests and endangering Indian culture and religion - Even though Gandhi's fight is the reason Inda is independent today. Gandhi at the time had plans of visiting Pakhistan and attempting to establish equality among the newly divided India. Gandhi is remembered today as the father of India's independance.
