    My Influences: My Older Sister
    My older sister is one year older, so we are closer than most siblings. We grew up looking after each other because our parents worked a lot when we were younger. We're more like best friends. She's loud and outgoing, and she is always herself. She is confident in who she is, and someone I look up to in terms of strength emotionally.

    On this date at around 8:00 AM, I was born to Xiao Ming Ye and Chen Biao Yang in North York General Hospital. I am the second born daughter in this family.

    Shortly after I was born, my older sister and I were sent to China to live with our relatives. I lived with some aunts and uncles and my sister lived with my grandmother on my father's side. We lived there for about 2 years, and then we came back to Canada. This photo was taken after I had learned how to walk.

    After coming home from China, my family moved. We originally lived in China Town near Toronto, but then moved to Markham after buying a home. This is my older sister, my mother and I standing outside our new home.

    The cousin in my interview is really my role model. He came to Canada from China when I was 6. He came to Canada to better his education and follow his dreams, setting a good example for the young me. He looked after me and my older sister and was good with kids, truly someone who I aspire to be like.

    Near the autumn of 2003, my grandmother on my mother's side died due to cancer. She was the closest grandparent I knew. My grandfathers died before I was born, and my father's mother lived in China.

    This was why I had to change schools. The YRDSB gifted program was new at Boxwood Public School, and I was part of the first gifted class (we referred to it as FGC).

    After coming to Boxwood, I've met people who later became my friends. They Influence me in a way that helped me become who I am now. They saw your peers are a greater influence than even your parents because you see them more often during the time when you grow up. This is true for me too. These are all the friends I made since grade 4 at Boxwood Public School.

    Do unto others as you would like to have done unto you. During grade 4, my class had to create a Character Matters presentation and we worked on Fairness, and what it means to truly treat others with fairness.

    On this date, my twin sisters were born. Trivia fact: twins are rarer for Chinese families. Their names are Manny and Tao. Manny is the older twin. Originally her name was Man, but my parents released the difficulties of having that name during school. Manny is on the left, and Tao is on the right.

    After all three of my little sisters were born, my mom allowed me and my older sister to look after them (after they were a suitable age). This has given me my primary experience with children. From how to look after them, how to feed them, and even how to handle them. They've shown me that I wanted to work with children. This was taken when they were 5 and 4 years old.

    During grade 8, my family left on a trip to China to visit my sick grandmother. This trip lasted around a month, and we came home during mid-January. It was difficult having such a long trip disprupt school and all the work.

    I took a social science course in grade 9, family studies. Family studies is very broad, but covered a general idea of all the social sciences such as food and nutrition, anthropology, and the like.

    My the end of my grade 9 year, I realized I wanted to work in the medical field, due to my strong like of the sciences. After running the Imagine a Cure for Leukemia fundraiser, I knew how much I wanted to help those who were sick, in any way I can.

    The gifted program arranged and organized a fundraiser for Imagine a Cure for Leukemia. This was planned within several months, and we managed to raise around 2 thousand dollars because of everyone's contribution.

    Over the summer, I volunteered in Thornhill. It was a new experience, working with children from the ages of 2-6. It taught me how to handle different experiences with children and allowed me to apply knowledge I already knew from my baby sisters.

    After volunteering at the nursery, I really felt this desire to work with kids when I grow up. I know I'm not meant for a very technological job, and I want to work with others. Working with children would be enjoyable, but I still want to work in the medical field, so I feel pediatrics is what I would like to work in.

    I will turn 16 in January, but will wait until summer to begin testing for my G1. This will allow me to focus on schoolwork and study after school has ended.

    Before I graduate, I would like to accomplish 300-400 community service hours. I would hand them in well before the graduation ceremony, and have quite a few while applying for my post secondary education to better my chances at being accepted to the school of my choice.

    During the summer after I turn 20, I would like to visit Japan. It has always been an area of interest to me, and I've wanted to visit for 2 years. The culture is fascinating, and I would like to sight-see all their famous attractions.
